The Palin emails: the NY Times… — 33 Comments

1. I am sure the MSM and dems were projecting. They know what they say in private would be embarrassing if made public.

2. Watching this I can only say ‘Wow’. This is not shown today of a Republican President. Maybe that’s why their ratings have soured so much over the years.

3. I’m coming to believe that Sarah Palin represents something very profound and important. I say that as someone who still has genuine doubts about how well she’d be President, by the way. But the Left’s reaction to her has ripped away the mask and revealed something really horrifying underneath. Something about her — her decency, her normalcy, her Americanness — has crystallized everything modern Liberals hate.

They are very canny and shrewd, normally. They cynically lie and manipulate and deceive. But when Sarah appears the rage bubbles up and all the cleverness fades away. Faces twist with rage. Mouths spew obscenities and ridiculous lies. The smooth, urbane, educated facade drops away and beneath we see mad beasts.

For that alone, she is a treasure. Every day Sarah reminds all of us who the liberals truly are, alone in the dark with themselves.

4. Hmm, I read that Sarah Palin email 3 times and I have no idea what it is. Does she think she is god? It is very weird. The picture however is very affecting.

Also, why am I able to read personal emails like this? I neither want to, nor think I should be allowed to.

5. I wonder if Palin is a high degree black belt in some esoteric marital art where she’s learned how to use her opponents’ strength to her advantage. Every single time the media thinks they have her, they end up flat on their backs. Remember how Ali used the rope a dope technique against Foreman? Palin has taken it one step further.

If she gets the nomination, the media is going to be all punched out by that time and they’ll just be preaching to the choir.

6. Didn’t Phil Hartman get his brains blown out by his wife?

Yet Reagan lacked “situational awareness.” Classic.

7. I stopped trying to debate Libs, and now I just go straight for the jugular.

The conversations usually goes something like this:

“I can’t quantify how stupid Palin is. I can to a reasonable degree quantify how stupid Obama is.

He thinks there are 57 states (plus 2 more), and that the “P” is enunciated in the word “Corpsman “. But lest I seem too petty, he also thought giving 1 Trillion dollars to cash starved state and local governments, and widening roads in front of empty shops would stimulate the economy.

I can also most certainly quantify how stupid Obama supporters are.

They voted for a candidate that had: No executive experience, no management experience, no diplomatic experience, no military experience, no private sector business experience,

He never stayed up late trying to figure out how to meet payroll, and he never closed out the register at the end of the night shift.

He has no published academic works, and his litigation experience consisted of a hand full of cases in small claims court.

His true claim to fame consisted of working for an organization that pressured banks into give stuff to consumers who could not afford it. And even that juicy little tidbit is glossed over.

And you voted for him…. Whose the idiot again?!?!?

At that point, I calmly walk away under a barrage of F-Bombs.

Well said.

I’m not a fan of Palin, but something about her makes leftists reveal their totally unacceptable face. They just can’t control themselves, and reveal the profound malignancy that lies within.

9. Trimegistus, very, very well said.

Cubz_Fan, an excellent, concise summary.

10. Simon: the context of the email was that she was sending it to family and friends (and perhaps some close aides; I don’t exactly remember) to let them know that she had found out she was pregnant with a Down’s syndrome child and was planning to deliver it. To inform them, she used the imaginative device of speaking as though God were explaining why this was not a bad thing, but a good thing. She certainly does not think she is God; it is a literary device.

11. What you see is what you get with Palin. This kind of self-honesty was also present with Reagan and Bush II. Whatever their flaws, they didn’t hide it behind some government corruption/kickback program like some other people I can name.

That’s why people don’t like about Palin. It’s not that they think she’s stupid or not fit for the Body of Rulers in DC. It’s that they can’t believe a politician can be as uncorrupt as she is, both on the outside as well as on the inside.

They can’t believe it. After all, their greatest politicians, Obama, Clinton, and Ted Kennedy, all had their… personal little issues one way or another. The greater man, the greater their flaws, the Left expects and tolerates naturally. Of course Ted Kennedy could do anything he wanted to women. That is his right and his authority as a man of the Left, as a politician fighting for the Good Cause. That is what the Left and the Democrat sanctions. A man like Clinton can of course do whatever he wants to women. That’s how the Left behaves. That’s natural and to be expected. Then comes Sarah Palin.

And they saw something they could not allow to exist. The testimony of the Left’s crimes against humanity…. For if greatness and duty could be served without doing evil, then what the hell has the Left been doing these past centuries?

14. The SNL parody was Reagan channeling Thatcher…

THAT’S the joke.

Thatcher literally burned her ‘bench’ into the ground…

Which is where the SNL parody came from.

That’s what happens when super woman is running the show.

There are simply no end of British tales of Thatcher stunning and shaming EVERY minister…

By demonstrating a hyper-superiority of their own portfolios.

When the word got out within the ranks…

Very, very few wanted to be in her cabinet.

ALL of their stupidities were sure to be revealed.

15. What? You mean she wasn’t e-mailing boob photos all over Alaska?

I’m shocked.

16. I am a Palin fan. Precisely because she IS all Trimegistus says, and more.

And given the DISASTER that is now in the White House, how can anyone continue to say she can’t be 1,000% better president than he? He is the worst. Perhaps she will be the best.

A woman has to be three times as good to get one third the votes. She almost got John McCain up to even, might even have been able to carry him over the top if it hadn’t been for his lack of willingness to fight and the financial debacle that broke so conveniently for Obama.

And that was against OVERWHELMING support for Obama by the Journ-O-list, in the tank media.

And that was against the “transformative” and historic nature of Obama’s candidacy.

And that was after 8 years of Republican bashing by the media and every left wing org on the planet.

Sarah Palin is the MOST VETTED candidate in history. She has survived the nuclear blowtorch – not only survived, but stands tall and proud, and crushes Obama at every turn with a simple Facebook message – of truth, calling him on the BS.

Obama himself could not have withstood one one millionth of the scrutiny she has been subjected to. He got a free pass.

It’s time to stop buying into the “she can’t” narrative. She has been, and can continue to BEAT HIM.

And the world will be a better place for it.

17. Palin is terrific. That email is wonderful: what generosity of spirit, what gentle warmth.

I’d vote for her in a heartbeat: the most crucial quality we need in a president is someone who loves this country and gets what she’s all about. Which Sarah does.

I met a man in Tennessee who was driving an airport shuttle from Nashville to Chattanooga; he was an Alaskan libertarian. His admiration for Sarah was incandescent. In his forties, had seen enough to know the liars and skunks when he saw them. He said, “She’s the real deal. She really fought for us; she took down the big boys who were corrupt, and she’s as honest as the day is long.” He noted that her approval rate even among Alaska’s Democrats was 76%.

[That was before the Liberal Libel Brigade got going on her. ]

We had a young college student in the back seat listening to us all the way to Monteagle (about 100 miles). He never said a word, but when he got out of the van and we asked why he hadn’t joined in the conversation, he said thoughtfully, “It was really interesting. I hadn’t known a lot of that stuff.”

She would make a very good president, I think. I also think she’s smart enough to select all the brainiacs she needs for her cabinet etc. I’d feel a lot better with America in her hands than those of some other candidates we’ve seen, and far better than any of the Vicious Party.

18. Everybody who demonstrates integrity and common sense in the age of rampant corruption and dishonesty is more than simply a politician – much more. But the mere fact of her existence she becames a harsh sentence for duplicity and treason of the ruling class. I can remind two figures with no political power at all but who made all the difference in forming political opinions of the whole nation: Leo Tolstoy and Andrey Sakharov. They delegitimazed the whole edifice of state and Chirch, or of state and Party, in public opinion, which became a prelude to a crashing defeat of corresponding regimes. Sarah Palin belongs to this category of people who change the course of history by inspirational rejection of common lie.

19. Liberal elitism is reaching a self destructive fever pitch. The whole notion that the value of a person be determined by shallow issues like race, gender and allegiance to liberal dogma is not going to fly in America. And liberals find themselves with no defense but to double down on pushing the sick narrative as being written in stone.

20. @ Steve June 12th, 2011 at 6:07 pm. I am sure the MSM and dems were projecting. They know what they say in private would be embarrassing if made public. I was going to say precisely that, but you already did.

Shortly before she was announced for the vice presidency, my husband and I were on a vacation up to Alaska. The bus driver for the tour that we were on pointed out the governor’s mansion and went on to say that there was a rumor going around that McCain was going to choose her for his vice presidency, and he added that he hoped it wouldn’t happen because she was doing such a great job as governor of the state and that she had an 84% approval rating. It’s clear she was immensely popular in Alaska and a real fighter for the people.

22. Simon:

Neo:
Simon,… To inform them, she used the imaginative device of speaking as though God were explaining why this was not a bad thing, but a good thing. She certainly does not think she is God; it is a literary device.

My comment is based on the assumption that the Simon who commented here is the same Simon from the UK who now lives in the US.

His comment shows the atrophy of religion in Europe, where religion has been state-supported for centuries. Simon had no idea whatsoever where Sarah Palin was coming from.

There are at least two historical differences between Europe and America regarding religion. First, religion was never state-supported at the national level in the US, in contrast to Europe. While religion was in some instances supported at the state/individual colony level in America, especially in New England, this had ceased by the first half of the 19th century. The lack of government support/interference led to more vigorous practice of religion in the US compared to Europe. State support of religion meant that vigorous practice of religion was often seen as being related to war in Europe, whereas it never was in America. In Europe, avoidance of religion was seen as avoiding war- a logical conclusion after the Thirty Years’ War. Such a conclusion is not supported by the American experience.

Second, there has been a self-selective process between Europe and America regarding those for whom religion was important, and those who were indifferent to religion. Many religious dissenters, for whom religion was important enough that they wanted to practice their own form of non-state-supported religion, left Europe for America. The exporting of those to whom religion was important to America meant that over the years, there was a higher proportion of such people in America compared to Europe.

As a result, many people who are not churchgoers in the US, such as myself, have more contact with those who are churchgoers — and/or whose to whom religion is important- than we would in Europe. We therefore have more empathy and understanding of churchgoers- and those for whom religion is important- than our non-churchgoing counterparts in Europe. Even though I am not a churchgoer, I had no problem discerning where Sarah Palin was coming from. I credit my Bible-thumping grandmother, a wise and tolerant person, for that.

23. Gringo.
Very charitable of you. Generous. Misplaced. My guess–quite certain, actually–is that Simon is getting ready to claim Palin thinks she’s God.
He knows better. Nobody’s that dumb. But if he can make the case loudly enough, he’ll feel he’s doing something important.

24. Sarah Palin is the best damned politician I have ever see and I’ve seen them all since Harry Truman.

25. Hmmm…..choices, choices.
Investigate a 2500 page bill that will affect everyone’s health care and that nobody has read…or…go dumpster diving for Sarah’s emails.
Trimegistus has nailed it. Evil bastids.

Nuclear blowtorch vetting! Boy is that ever the truth. I have never seen the scrutiny given to a VICE-PRESIDENTIAL candidate as I have seen given to Sarah Palin. Katie Couric’s colon received less scrutiny — and there was video of that! Now Palin’s not even an announced presidential candidate for 2012, and the media lapdogs are chasing after her bus, wondering where they are headed. She isn’t playing by the old rules, nor should she. She has every reason to snub the media.

And you’re right about Obie. He couldn’t stand the honest criticism of Netanyahu without showing his anger and contempt for the man. And this after Obama made the ’67 borders statement while Netanyahu was in the air travelling to the US. Obama criticizes everyone, but is so thin-skinned that the least little disruption to the fawning adulation he thinks is his due ticks him off. His policies personifies John Edwards’ Two Americas: Friends of Obama and Enemies of Obama. The enemies list is growing faster than the national debt.

I’m shocked.

I want to know how to get on that email list.

27. Those of you proclaiming Palin’s approval rating in Alaska must be mistaken. I know this because in 2008 the NY Times had a lengthy article on her as governor–took up almost an entire page–and they couldn’t find one person who thought she was doing a good job. If the Times couldn’t find one, well, then there couldn’t have been any.

Long ago a poli sci professor told me that it made sense to some extent to vote for a presidential candidate based on character. After all, he pointed out, no one could have voted for John Kennedy owing to how he’d handle the Cuban missile crisis since it hadn’t happened yet. (He turned out not to have handled it precisely as well as we thought at the time, of course.)

If that now-proverbial three a.m. call came in to President Palin, I’d trust her instincts, and I’d trust the people she’d have to advise her. As to Obama’s instincts and advisers, we know about that and it’s not good.

28. “Every single time the media thinks they have her, they end up flat on their backs.”

You might like this cartoon about her and the media: it says it all!
