Chris Christie on a 2012 candidacy — 28 Comments
He’s great for Joisey, but a gun grabbing, muslim butt kisser, AGW believer won’t make it in America.
He’s great for Joisey, but a gun grabbing, muslim butt kisser, AGW believer won’t make it in America.
Seconded.
He seems to think he isn’t ready yet. I agree. Let’s hope he isn’t seduced by the people trying to change his mind.
Have we gotten so starved for true leadership that, as soon as someone in power starts speaking common sense for multiple days in a row, we demand that he run for President?
(Answer: regrettably yes, and it’s not at all new.)
“Have we gotten so starved for true leadership that, as soon as someone in power starts speaking common sense for multiple days in a row, we demand that he run for President?”
It’s like all those college freshmen going to the NBA after one season. A little spark of talent and suddenly they’re “ready” for the big leagues with very little seasoning. That’s certainly a new development in the history of basketball.
In politics, of course, we have the same phenomenon. Give one good speech and suddenly you’re ready to be president. Or, maybe not. As events show.
I’ve seen the posts by people making these claims about Christie.
I do NOT have enough evidence to believe it yet.
With Obama we have 1,000 times the evidence more that he is a muslim butt kisser, gun grabber.
We need perspective.
You guys – I love you – but you lack perspective on Chris Christie.
I mean on the scale of -10 to +10 it looks like Christie is at the top of that scale above Mitch Daniels and Haley Barbour and
much much higher than folks like John McCain and
at least he’s on the positive side as opposed to Obama.
What in the world are we doing here????
I don’t get it.
A few words of opinion by a few bloggers and we are completely convinced that he’s not a good guy?
Thank you GS
ck and rickl,
Chew on this line in the article
Last spring, Christie took the state’s entire allocation for its global warming fund ($65 million) to help close its budget deficit.
Now that – does not. square. with. your opinion.
No basis in facts?
Let me add this guys – one appointment (Sohail Mohammed) does not make one like Obama who CONSISTENTLY and REPEATEDLY seems to CHOOSE in favor of the dictator and communist and Islamist everywhere in the world.
Apparently Christie is not grabbing hunters’ guns. NJ “animal rights” people are vehemently against him. Cf. this.
Try this Chris Christie quote from when he spoke at the American Enterprise Institute
This afternoon at the American Enterprise Institute, New Jersey governor Chris Christie said he wants House Republicans to “put up or shut up” on entitlement reform and had a message for those candidates he campaigned for in 2010: “If the people who I campaigned for don’t stand up and do the right thing, the next time they’ll see me in their district [it will be] with my arm around their primary opponent,” Christie said. “Because you asked me to put my reputation on the line for you based on a promise that you were going to deal with these hard issues.”
“”He seems to think he isn’t ready yet.””
I kinda like the not ready Chris Christie. One look at all those groomed for the job and we see they really spent all that time becoming politicians and avoiding the risky polling problems surrounding leadership.
I want him a fatter, more outspoken, confrontational, a daily countering force to media BS and a set of balls the size of New Jersey. Then he’ll be ready.
He ISN’T ready yet.
Many of the policies he is enacting in NJ are very welcome and long awaited by the tax paying population, but they are still long term strategic actions for which we only think we know the outcome. He has only been in office a short time and we need to also see how his confrontational attitudes play over the long term.
The governor in the state of New Jersey is a very powerful position that is not heavily reliant upon building consensus and forming alliances. Much of what he is able to do he is able to do by decree and by outmanuevering the legislature. The presidency is much different, and he will have to adapt to a different governing style in order to make things happen on a federal level.
He really does have to get a long term track record, and we also need to have the media start attacking him like they would if he actually does run for the presidency. Until then, he’s just a terrific speaker with a very good mind for political manuevering.
Sound familiar?
Oh, and we still need him here.
I agree that he is not ready. He is now tackling problems that he has observed first hand in NJ, and that is consuming, I assume, all his attention right now. I remain concerned about foreign policy, and I doubt that he has had enough time to study and reflect on this. Let’s give him time to get the NJ problems in hand and prepare himself for a wider stage.
I think 100% of us agree he isn’t ready. He needs to do what he set out to do in NJ.
I just absolutely disagree with the first two commenters.
Christie commuted the sentence of Brian Aitken for gun possession that was supposedly illegal in NJ, where Aitken had recently moved from Colorado where it was not a crime.
My imperfect understanding is that Christie issued a commutation instead of a pardon at the request of the Aitken camp, which wanted to retain standing to challenge the NJ law via the appeals process.
1. I disagree with those who rule Christie out unequivocally. I agree with those who say he isn’t ready.
2. My criteria for readiness may change if the ruling class gets us into a bigger jackpot next year then than we are in today.
3. Even if/though he doesn’t run, a divided GOP convention might turn to Christie.
4. My understanding is that the Democrats have a strong potential candidate, Newark mayor Cory Booker, to challenge Christie for reelection. If Christie is reelected governor, whether or not his opponent is Booker, that will reinforce his case for national electability, i.e. his appeal to independents.
Lets consider four words: Disaster. Adequate. Good. Perfect.
Perfect: An ideal, articulate, committed conservative emerges and generates huge republican coattails that increases conservative head count in the congress bringing a 2/3rd majority in the house and 60 seats in the Senate.
Good: A generally conservative republican takes the WH. Republicans increase head count in the house and end up with 56 Senate seats.
Adequate: A republican who will support a responsible conservative legislative agenda, and sign the bills takes the house. The republicans hold their house seats possibly exchanging a few RINOs for conservatives, and we end up with 51 Senate republican.
Disaster: Obama gets a 2nd term.
Whatever his possible short comings, Christie certainly gives us a good shot at avoiding disaster, getting beyond adequate, even possibly ending up somewhere beyond good.
We must get a republican in the WH, hold the house and take the Senate in 2012. MUST! Anything less is a disaster.
I realize that we all have favorite candidates. Once the primary is over next year we must unite behind the republican.
Note: Adequate should have read “takes the WHITE house”
as an aside, the parasite thing seems to have inspired others… i am now pretty sure that some authors hang out here for ideas.. 🙂
You got that right. I’d add a disaster that the average reader of Neo’s blog wouldn’t live long enough to see our country recover from.
Lot of people still think that we live in “normal” times and use corresponding criteria. But actually we live in times of global turmoil, with wars of unknown scale ready to erupt, with lingering economic disaster ready to turn into full-blown catastrophe. So let us look for people capable to mobilize nation in the face of extraordinary emergency.
I think Christie should stay in Joisey. He’s doing a good job there so far. I have problems with his 2nd Amendment position, as well as his immigration and ObamaCare positions (he refused to join the other states down in Florida in their lawsuit). He was a Federal prosecutor, so there is that going for him, but Giuliani was a Federal prosecutor, too.
When it comes to governors, I do not worry about foreign policy matters. Governors are not expected to handle foreign policy while governors, and they can come up to speed if they are quick (Obama is slower than molasses in a glowbull warming January). I’d also like to see Christie have a term or two as governor to see how his executive skills are, as I view executive skills paramount in a President. Bush had two terms as governor, while Clinton had multiple terms as governor plus one term as attorney general, so they had some executive experience. Back to Giuliani for a bit, even he, as mayor of NYC, had more executive experience than Obama, and we see how Obama’s lack of executive experience is working our for us. Giuliani was magnificent during 9/11, no question about it, and I’m glad he was my mayor. But how many know of Giuliani’s nanny state tendencies? He tried to stop people from jaywalking in NYC, NYC!, by putting up barriers at street corners, slowing foot traffic down in a walking city. (If you live in NYC, jaywalking is SOP, and surprisingly few get killed.)
Back to Christie. Sad to say, were he to run, he’d have to go on a serious diet because we are, after all, in the era of the American Idol Presidency. Besides, if Christie were to run at his current weight, it might give ideas to Mikey Moore, and I do not want to give Mikey Moore-on any such ideas.
I would do the boogaloo (wearing nothing but a thong) in the street if Moore was the democrat nominee in 2012-16-20-24……..
Sergey Says: Lot of people still think that we live in “normal” times and use corresponding criteria. But actually we live in times of global turmoil, with wars of unknown scale ready to erupt, with lingering economic disaster ready to turn into full-blown catastrophe.
The conditions in Sergey’s second sentence are normal in a historical sense. His “normal” times are a recent development. It is far from clear whether the new “normal” is a step up in human progress or whether “normal” conditions will revert back to normal conditions.
It is not a good sign that so many people not only take the recent “normal” for granted but are apoplectic that it is not the utopia to which they feel entitled.

Look to the cradle of Presidents, Kasich.
I haven’t watched the Christie animation yet…
