Feel-good story of the day: the golden voice
I challenge anyone not to be touched by this story, and especially by the character of the guy’s fabulous mom (remember—ninety, not ninety-two):

Really hope he can pull it off and stay sober once the paychecks come in, very rare for a homeless person to hit something like this. Not everyone is happy for him though:

I like the Mom. Feisty and energetic. Where did it all go wrong?
Watch how quickly the public gushes and fawns all over this guy. In reality, he’s just another radio announcer–there are 1000’s all over the dial. And many more 1000’s applying for their jobs.
Take the emotional “tug at our heartstrings” out of it, and it just might be a gimmick for this guy to get in the spotlight. What’s next? An interview on Oprah?

We are all a gimmick. Which is a rather cynical way of describing who we are as individuals and what we bring to the table of society.
I can say with certainty i’d find this guy’s voice superior to Oprah’s narrating a discovery channel nature show. More power to him if he lands such a job and even better if he planned in advance how it would all go down.
When I watched the You tube video my initial reaction was, man, that’s a great job of overdubbing. Funny how ordinary some radio stars actually look like, compared to the image you get from the voice. I hope he succeeds with his second (third, fourth, whatever) chance. Addiction is a deep canyon.
I am not in the least “touched” by it. A lazy, irresponsible bum and wino gets into some bucks and an equally lay-about “mommy” shows up to share in the proceeds.
What a “heartwarming” story. Trash meets trash.
Give unto me a break!
