Ingrid Betancourt, Che, and FARC — 5 Comments

  1. Anyone who in 2002, thirty five years after Che met his maker, had an idealistic vision of Che, is beyond ignorance and foolishness.

That it took HER kidnapping to dissuade herself of her vision of the FARC, after the FARC had been kidnapping and setting mines for decades, shows what a fool Ingrid is.

The FARC leader Mono Jojoy was recently killed in La Macarena, in an operation that involved 30 planes and 27 helicopters to breach the FARC’s underground fortress there. A Colombian who was a family friend worked for the Peace Corps in Colombia until the Peace Corps got out in 1981. Over three decades ago he told me that Peace Corps volunteers were told in no uncertain terms to stay away from La Macarena, for fear of kidnapping etc.

This meant that 1) La Macarena was a FARC stronghold for decades and 2) FARC had a well-deserved reputation for the killing and kidnapping of innocents many decades before Ingrid Betancourt got kidnapped.

What a maroon, that Ingrid Betancourt. Let her stay in Paris. Colombia is for serious people.[gente seria]

  2. Che was a sociopath. I know otherwise well educated people here in the USA who just “loved, loved, LOVED” that movie about him riding around on his motorcycle (I think it was made by Robert Redford…big surprise huh?).

    Disgusting.

  3. She tried to sue the Colombian government for damages for failing to prevent her kidnapping, despite the fact that it was that government who ultimately rescued her.

ask any animal control officer if dogs bite their rescuers

  4. Some people might just belong in the do-not-rescue category.
Keeping in mind that actual sentient beings are put at risk for the rescue of…what?

  5. Richard,

I have to agree. It sounds like rescuing the silly tyrannical bint was a big favor to FARC.
