I suggest we make overtures to the Isle of Guernsey to see if they would like to establish a special relationship with the USA. If they don’t go for it, maybe Jersey will.
Did the Dope go off prompter again?

it is a misquote of Lenin to justify the murders that he committed…
it was duranty that said it, and it was later nixons man liddy who said it too.
however the original is:

you cant fundamentally transform the keystone of liberty and not expect the rocks from the arches not causing harm as they come crashing down…
I wonder who we can put blame to after our 401(k)s took a sharp dive approx. 1.5 yrs ago, and have been more or less in a big dodoo ever since?
Tayana,
Start looking at Obama’s staffers and campaign contributors.
expat,
You mean I will have to join British pensioners and look in the same direction as they?!?
It hurts our retirees too. Attacking dividend payments seems like a safe political bet – since it only hurts “rich investors”. Quite contrary, rich investors do not look for dividends. It is the ‘Fixed Income’ funds that most retirees would be drawing on that invest in dividend paying stocks. So, in essence, these attacks on dividends is really hurting our retirees. I am sure it is not just the British pensioners.
Attacking BP fits another pattern of this administration – that of hurting our allies. Toyota had its flogging earlier this year too.
If this oil spill was Exxon|Mobile, the reaction would have been quite different.
It’s yet another way for Obama to stick the knife into the British people, who he hates for punishing his Mau-Mau ancestor.
Every Obama policy hurts retirees and other investors. He couldn’t be more destructive of investments that pensioners depend on if he openly declared that as his policy. Totally ignorant of economics.
BP cannot be too big to fail or too important to fail because pensioners invested it.

True, but no need to drive a company that might have a chance to survive into bankruptcy because the President is jawboning the price down. BP must pay for all the damage, if it can. It has enormous resources, good cash flow, 12 billion in cash, and this new discovery increases its reserves in a positive direction. If any company can pay for this, BP is certainly one of them. However, a hostile government, blaming and chastising them at every turn, could drive their equity down to a point where they are forced to liquidate unnecessarily. That would not help anyone.
Let’s not forget — as our “Dear Leader” (sarcasm intended) that BP is not the only company involved in this mess. It has several partners — deep pocketed ones at that, though one would never know from the news coverage! Even Fox is echoing the President in blaming BP, only BP and forever BP.
(This is not to say that BP does not have a huge responsibility in this mess. But let’s not forget: the explosion was an ACCIDENT! It was not planned. It was not intended to sabotage the U.S. and close to a 1/3 of it’s coastlines — as Obama would like us to believe. Obama’s intent is same as ever: manipulate situation to expedite his agenda. In this situation, that would be redistributing wealth!)
Even richer, today Obama announced that BP’s compensation should include all those who would have worked on deep water oil rigs but who will not have jobs now because Obama has called a moratorium on all such projects. No jobs, therefore no working, but win the BP lotto by Presidential decree!
Obama’s mishandling of this entire thing is quite fascinating, and horrifying and terrifying. However, IF an American oil company created a spill of this magnitude off the coast of Britain the British would be absolutely livid and would be saying things FAR worse about America than what Americans are saying about Britain. I’m not suggesting our President is right at all about bashing Britain, but believe me, if the situation were reversed I CANNOT imagine the vitriol that would be coming from the U.K.
The American government has very few friends in the world. Obama is a disgrace & one of the most unpopular president’s in America. The British people have always supported America. America spends more than the entire world combined on its defence. Why go after a mere 10 $ dividends that go to provide income to retirees etc. obama has also through his BP bashing destroyed the market cap of BP. What about all the compensation for all the damage USA did in Iraq destroying water plants, schools, roads & other civilian infrastructure.
