The claims of threats and childish whatnot coming from the Democrats now that health care has passed are so infantile and without substance that one can surmise that they are made in the not too unreasonable expectation that the MSM will run with them, give them credibility and even flesh out the points that might gain some credibility. (That is why the Republicans never go this route, as they never find a complicit hand in the MSM.) I think it is time for the MSM to pack up its bags and go home.
One thing they haven’t done in a long while is to commit acts of real journalism.
I remember once, long ago, when even the NYT was renowned for the objectivity and sophistication of its national and international reporters. Of course, that was when they respected the intelligence of their readership. Pinch was responsible for making chicken shit from chicken salad.
Steve G,
You said,“I remember once, long ago, when even the NYT was renowned for the objectivity and sophistication of its national and international reporters. Of course, that was when they respected the intelligence of their readership.”
Your memory must go back quite a way! Even back in the 30’s the NYT was pedaling snake oil for the socialists. Look up Duranty and his Pulitzer for his reportage on the Non-famine in the USSR at the time (1930’s). He claimed it was all anti-soviet propaganda. Meanwhile millions died in that non-famine. Read Conquest’s Harvest of Sorrow.
Or perhaps you refer to the NYT publishing of the Pentagon Papers? Another stellar moment of objectivity and honesty?
When did the NYT ever really maintain objectivity and sophistication?
My .02 worth of political tactics. Roll the tape 24/7 depicting Obama’s expiration date promise policy. Make it part of the pop culture until that socialist SOB has lost all credibility and been marginalized so it doesn’t really matter what he says.
I think the New York Times made its reputation during the Titanic disaster in 1912, and they’ve been coasting on it ever since.
Thanks to a young wireless operator named David Sarnoff, the NYT correctly reported that the Titanic had sunk “with great loss of life”, while dozens of other papers on both sides of the Atlantic were saying that the ship was crippled and slowly making its way into port. The Boston American ran the infamous headline, “All Saved From Titanic After Collision”.
They say they don’t watch the polls or “the polls don’t matter” or “the anger is aimed at all incumbents.”
But the truth is they do watch the polls and know their days in control are numbered. They know they better everything passed as quickly as possible. The anger is deep and what they have lost are independents. The great middle sees the way the democrats have pushed their great leftist agenda. The great middle has seen how Obama & company has squandered their “mandate”.
We can only hope that people don’t get discouraged between now and the upcoming elections.
Maybe a better thread for this comment- I rarely give to political campaigns. Usually it’s one joker or another and there was not a lot at stake. That has changed drastically. I’m budgeting $2,000 for this election cycle to help pick off some tougher Dem incumbents. The Health Care Bill was the Dems’ Ft. Sumter. The first official shot fired in a political war, but it was a long time coming.
