Ok, no hot link. And I did not put all those spaces in. Oh well. The book I am speaking of is “I Can’t Believe I’m Sitting Next to a Republican” by Harry Stein. Read it.

I didn’t think politically until I was 21. It was then that I went searching for alternative view points and in my radical core belief change from liberalism to libertarianism (people who believe government should be cut by 80%) I had visited the library 3 times a week for a full year.
That was 1991.
Since then I’ve only moderated based on my knowledge that there is no way a libertarian can affect change and the changes a libertarian would implement would be hard for the country to take. A cut of 80% would impact lives so drastically.
While it is nice to think of how things COULD be – it is wise to look at reality and see what changes can be made that make positive change.
Thus – I’m a centrist conservative.
If federal and state governments could just no longer increase spending for 10 years while all governments RE-PRIORITIZE what they spend on and focus on ways to teach a man how to fish rather than give fish – our economy would be driven by independent and self sufficient and economically literate adults who save for the rainy day and consume less.
Consume less.
It is a way of being that would attract liberals with environmental leanings.
independent and self sufficient would attract most everyone including Democrats who support welfare reform.
teaching a man how to fish would attract religious people.
There is no reason why we can’t have politicians LEARN how to make positive changes in this country. They THINK they know best with their nanny state ideas but they really don’t. Obama. Democrats. Republicans – they all seem to think of themselves as parents of us children.
BTW, I learned a new word from this book.
