Resetting Russia — 3 Comments

  1. Russia is naturally scared of US military power demonstrated in Iraq. For a nation that had to withdraw their conscripts, cause they left losing regiments and battalions in Chechnya, and substituted them with air artillery that made the ‘rubble bounce’, they saw the US Marines in Fallujah and pissed their pants.

That’s infantry combat power and they know what can be made to happen with the right uses of that power. So they want to keep that way away from Russia or any place Russia is interested in, like Ukraine or Georgia.

And what better way to do that than to create regional instability in Afghanistan and Iraq, by way of Iran, given the convenient coincidence that much of US military power is invested in those two countries?

If Bush had liberated Georgia from Russia and secured the region utilizing what the military learned from Iraq, things would be different. But he didn’t, so Russia knew that Iraq and Afghanistan truly has paralyzed the expeditionary power of the US military for other adventures.

Of course, that’s not true in reality, it is only true in perception and will. But that’s enough for a geo-political strategy to be concocted.

  2. I miss her. I got to meet here years ago. glad i did. last night we were watching paper moon and i got wistful remembering when i knew madeline kahn when she was a regular on sesame street (yes i helped do some work for 123 and i know how to get to sesame street and have wonderful memories from the very short time i was priveleged to have access). ruth buzy was another that i met there and loved. madeline i met over the last swedish meatball at one of their xmas/new year parties. she went for it, i knocked her fork out of the way, and the rest was private comedy history (as all the crew were performing for each other stuff) no one else would ever see. and ruth i met near the end of the evening after having one too many beers over at big birds and oscars can (reality can be weird and my life is a living testimoney to the greatful deads line “what a long strange trip its been). she refused to let me sit out doing the macarena (that will tell you about what year it was).. how bizarre to be dancing as an adult with the same character you watched as a very young child on laugh in (with arty johnson).

the years after and to today on AMC when they look back to the prior year is so hard for me. they are not just characters, some of them were people i knew in passing.

    i miss gilda…
