The dreaming dog — 18 Comments

  1. Could the poor thing be suffering from some kind of repressed trauma? Shows up in his dream world, I guess.

    Is there psychotherapy for dogs?

  2. “brighten”?

it’s an arresting video but all i can think is poor dog. he must have such a sleepwalking (sleeprunning) problem that his owners camp by him with a camcorder. a look at youtube shows that this isn’t the only such video. this can’t be a restful way to sleep.

  3. Oh dear. Report me to PETA if you must, but the video made me laugh.

I don’t actually think the dog is suffering at all, by the way, except maybe if he keeps crashing into walls as he does at the very end. I think he’s having a fine old time chasing phantom rabbits or squirrels. And if his sleep isn’t restful enough—why then, unless he has a pressing job of some sort to go to, my guess is that he can just sleep some more.

  4. One of our dogs sleep runs while he’s lying down.
BTW, now you did it. Your blog IS the Obama-Bizkit link.

  5. Well, OBVIOUSLY the dog is so excited about the changes that Obama’s bringing, they even invigorate his dreams….

    Or, you know, not. (g)

  6. If I squint real hard, I think I can see a metaphor for Obama’s First Hundred Days.

  7. Except Obama is not lovable. Silly, but not sweet, and hence can only aspire to doghood.

  8. I also could not escape recalling Obama while watching. The One is sleepwalking, sleeprunning, sleepbarking and even sleepjumping and would not became fully awake until crushing headfirst into a wall really hard.

  9. I can inform excessively sentimental animal defenders that dogs (and all other animals except primates) have pain threshold at least ten times higher than humans. I did animal experimentation and surgery myself and know when they really need painkillers.

  10. My poor Gillie the corgi only walks in her sleep, and not very fast, at that. That retriever, now, that’s a frisbee-chasin’ dog!

Sergey, I’m glad to hear most other animals have higher pain thresholds than we do. We are such wimps….
