What, no lobster or steamers?
President Bush and my man Sarkozy are together at last—and in my neck of the woods, more or less. Sarkozy has been staying at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, and Bush is at the family manse in Kennebunkport; two places I know well, at least from numerous drive-bys.
Well enough to say that this AP report is wrong when it refers to Walker’s Point, the site of the Bush estate, as “craggy.” It’s certainly not craggy by Maine standards—or perhaps by any standards. I’ll let you decide:
That’s a minor quibble, of course. And I’ve got a couple more, only this time for Bush: why no lobster on the menu? And why no steamers? And please, George, giving him the choice of a hamburger or a hot dog? C’mon don’t be stingy, this is your new buddy, not Jacques Chirac. How about both?
Come to think of it, don’t stint; offer the guy a shore dinner:
And invite neo-neocon. There’s still time.
It’s torture. Here I am in the middle of winter and you bring back memories of the Maine shore and a place called the Lobster Pound and drawn bitter and steamers. Fire the entire state department for not correctly advising the President on this rare diplomatic opportunity.
You’d think they’d at least offer to garnish the hot dogs with some local fresh sauerkraut.

Sauerkraut Waldoboro Maine – ExploreNewEngland.com
“Like migrating birds tipped off by shorter days and other autumnal signs, Mainers still make their way every fall to Morse’s Sauerkraut to load up on the crisp, crunchy ”kraut” produced there since 1918. Nowadays, it is available year-round and part of the old krauthaus has been transformed into a tiny restaurant and specialty food store offering gourmet items like maple-smoked bacon and brandy-filled bonbons.”
Perhaps Sarko specifically requested American style food. Tired of the French cuisine perhaps?
A blank on the lobster, however.
Yup, lgude, the “Lobster Pound” is on the main drag a bit north of Ogunquit — nice spot — a friend of mine practically keeled over as he finished his 3+ pound lobster there!
I think though, that they should have motored on into Perkins Cove and chowed down at “Barnacle Bill’s.” Probably too problematic in season for both the restaurant and the secret service.
Ah yes! Steamed Lobsters! Steam produced by America’s clean modern efficient nuclear power reactors.
You see neo, nuclear energy heats the water, producing steam which…
But what style of hotdog? Which regional dog garnish/dress will be chosen? What will that choice say about future plans and decisions?
And lets not get started with the chili! Will it be the traditional red? Or will it be the modern mass produced type with beans? Solid traditional or modern mass market? Which chili will be put forward as the taste of America to this furrin devil?
Four words, Harry:
Mein stim stup wowve.
(sorry, Sand Pebbles)
Would anyone eat tarantula?
Lobsters and crabs are just giant sea spiders.
Lee:
Tarantula’s not so bad if you singe the hair off it first.
Oh, and dont forget to remove the fangs. They tend to get stuck between your teeth.
Please, Grimmy,
I’m eating. REAL food.
I think it’s a clear jab at the anti-American French who disdain Sarkozy and Bush. Clever, if you ask me. I’m sure they got the message.
I generally go up to the Lake Winnipesaukee area for Laconia Bike Week…
There were no freedom fries?
The AP, as always, is playing their own little game.
Sarkozy’s wife didn’t show up.
This is pretty amazing. I’ve been away for six months and old neo-neocon hasn’t changed a bit. No regrets, no second thoughts, no indication that reality has sunk in at all.
Oh, but I forgot: 9/11 still ‘changed everything’, right? And I suppose no power on earth will make you repent the bizarre non-sequitur of invading Iraq.
L.A.-
Please go away again. You have not been missed. Your permanent absence will be a blessing.
Regarding Walker’s Point…on a Maine vacation around ten years ago, we were motoring through Kennebunkport, when we spied a white curly-haired granny type tooling through town in an electric blue Mustang convertible. We thought nothing of it until we took a trip out to the Point to view the Bush compound. Imagine our surprise when the same blue Mustang pulled up in front of the house and Barbara got out!
And isn’t it amazing how trolls can hijack even the least controversial threads?
For Hot Dogs in the area head to Flo’s. There is no discussing this.
Just found this place in Kittery and had the best meal I’ve had in a looonnngg time.

how’s the jihad going? You getting any new recruits?
Rich,
What is this? The “make Lee sick” thread? Sea spiders, steak AND tuna tartare?
At least “dinner” comes with a comedy show: The Loyal Achates comeback tour.
