Bombs away: why India? — 41 Comments

  1. This is what’s coming to Europe very soon. When so many muslims are crowded with so many non-muslims, there’s gonna be fireworks and dead bodies. Just like Palestine, like Kashmir, like Nigeria. This has been happening in India for forever.

  2. After the US broke AL Qaeda’s top leadership organization, what happened was that the cells were out in the cold on their own. This meant that while they were harder to track, these cells also were individually less dangerous because they were not working together and pooling their resources. They had to do everything by themselves. It is as if you lost one of your hands, and had to pour a drink for yourself. It is going to take awhile longer than usual.

Because the cells worked independently now, they could now interfere with one another. They argue, they debate, they might or might not agree to pool resources. The result is that regardless of what Al Qaeda and terroists want, they are unable to attack America and have failed spectacularly in the past when we nabbed them before the act. Also the dictator terroist sponsoring organizations have probably demanded that Al Qaeda concentrate on Iraq, they probably told the terroists they would get their support cut if they went to America or something.

Iran and Syria knows their shelf life is up if America loses another 3 to 30 thousand people. So long as the world can placate the Amis, Presidents and Congressmen will toe Iran’s “let’s wait and talk” line.

  3. I was talking to a Japanese national today whose family lives near where the N. Korean missiles landed. She reminded me that Japan has helped in Iraq and feels somewhat abandoned by the U.S. not coming down on Jung. She also told be a strange story about Jung’s brother or brother-in-law who was illegally in Japan trying to visit Disneyland and deported – I didn’t know there was a Disneyland in Japan. Nevertheless we joked and had a good time. [Sucking his thumb curled up with a Mickey Mouse souvenir, waking up frustrated demanding to go to Disney world now! And strap himself to a missile.] I told her that right now it’s important to let the Chinese take the lead on N. Korea. We agreed that China will do nothing. Yet, I think I got her to think about the process a bit – of trying to get other countries to stand up to rogue states, that the U.S. wants more country’s to share that responsibility as we do – for the sake of world peace. World Peace … it is the crux of the quote, This is not a clash of cultures, it is a clash of opposites.

  4. “I think I got her to think about the process a bit – of trying to get other countries to stand up to rogue states, that the U.S. wants more country’s to share that responsibility as we do – for the sake of world peace.”

The problem, unfortunately, is that the US, when it suits itself, keeps breaking international law at its sweet will (technically making itself a roogue state), which is bound to make other countries understandably suspicious of the US’s commitment to “world peace”, which almost by definition needs to be premised on all countries adhering to a code of law.

At this point in time, other countries simply don’t trust the US very much any more (any more than one has reason to trust a rogue elephant which is out of control).

  5. Perhaps Mitch, and some others around here, should take a read here…;
    and here; and here.

In particular, note where Mumbai is in relation to Gujarat.

I have no doubt that AlQaeda will be quick to claim involvement, and that the usual suspects’ condemnation of all Islam will follow. But if there is one instance that needs quiet and objective consideration it is the history of the Gujarat over the past fifty years.

Like the Levant, there is both wrong and right on both sides.

    Do not judge in haste.

  6. Nyo, tell the person that eventually an American will use a japanese made katana to execute the entire North Korean leadership. Maybe not in this quantum world, but maybe the next one.

There’s a lot of Marines that picked up Japanese martial arts and kendo while they were stationed there. Japanese philosophy has strenghtened the warrior core of the United States of America.

The problem with America is that America lets too many nations do their own thing, without using American power to intimidate people into doing what is convenient for us.

  7. “Do not judge in haste.”

Why not? You’ve already judged that the entirety of the human race deserves to die in terrorist attacks, for the crimes of all peoples’ ancestors.

  8. Probligo is as always wrong. There aren’t both sides. India since 1947 has made of itself a modern democracy well on the way to prosperity. Nearby Pakistan has through stupidity and ethnic cleansing of the non-Muslim continued to fall backwards. If the Muslim extremists should be thrown over the border into Pakistan where they can enjoy their lovely Sharia.

  9. Neo, JR Dunn has long, sobering look at Islamist goals that could serve as more background for your post.

“..The Jihadis have not abandoned their goal of all-out religious conflict. They haven’t abandoned it because, short of the actual establishment of a Salafist caliphate, it is the most complete possible victory they can imagine.”

  10. Cappy,

Yeah, the probligo is always wrong.

Cappy specialises in re-writing history. According to him the Gujarat riots of 2002 did not happen. Well, start by “correcting” Wikipedia…

Independent India has witnessed thousands of anti-Muslim and anti-Dalit riots. Conviction in riot-cases is rare.[20] [21] Gujrat Pogrom The first of the convictions in post-Godhra riot cases came on Tuesday, November 25 2003 with the Kheda district court sentencing 12 persons to life imprisonment. [22].

Second conviction came on 14 December 2005, a special fast-track court in Godhra, Gujrat sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment for killing 11 Muslims during religious riots in 2002.[23]. Another 21 suspects were acquitted due to lack of evidence. In a related judgement the court also convicted three people for leading the mobs that had attacked Muslim houses in the same village in the Panchmahals district of Gujarat. They were sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined. [24].

Third conviction came in Best Bakery Case, Mumbai High Court over-turned lower court verdict and sentenced 16 people to life imprisonment for killing of 14 people when the Best Bakery, in the Hanuman Tekri area of Vadodara, was attacked by a large mob.[25]

Worst of the accusations – well supported and I would post far more if allowed – is the involvement of Gujarat State, and India Federal governments in suppression of the Muslim communities.

  11. The problem with America is that America lets too many nations do their own thing, without using American power to intimidate people into doing what is convenient for us.

Y, that just HAS to be one of the most honest, most stupid, opinions I have ever read… even from you.

  12. Prob,
Since your’e so interested in history, why is it you don’t take into consideration the centuries-long domination of modern-day India by Islam (and the death toll, which dwarfs even 20th century destruction, except for the total communist depopulation)? Too long ago? Doesn’t fit your scheme? Didn’t know about it? Don’t care?

  13. I don’t know why everyone strains their brains to find a _motive_ or an _underlying cause_ for these bloody atrocities. It’s really, really simple.

    Muslims kill non-Muslims.

That’s it. That’s the whole story. They attacked the Bombay train system because they could kill a lot of infidels. No hidden motives, no message. Just killing for Muhammad.

This will go on until the rest of the world gets tired of it, and exterminates Muslims to the last man. That day is closer than most people imagine. A nuclear 9-11 in the US or a serious attack against China would do it. Islamic governments need to wake up _soon_ and realize the danger they’re in.

  14. OK, Brad, so you would blame the war in Afghanistan on Alexander the Great? After all he was one of those who invaded the area. Why not?

Yes, there is a long history of conflict between Hindu and Moslem communities in India. There have been, since 1946, remaining Moslem communities inside of modern India.

Conclusion 1, – The bombers, if they are Moslem are likely not from Pakistan at all as was suggested by one pundit here.

Conclusion 2 – It is not – post fact ipso fact – that AlQaeda is in any way involved. I do not rule the possibility out but at the time of my reply here there has been no suggestion that they were.

Conclusion 3 – Some here don’t bother to read. I suggest that you do, and consider, and above all think instead of kicking your own heads with your knee-jerks.

What I said “…there is both wrong and right on both sides.”

  15. Nate, as I’ve commented before, International Law is a mythic creation. Stop trying to appeal to something that only exists in the fervid imaginations of the you and your compatriots.

States only pursue their own interests, it is the nature of states. They have no permanent friends just permanent interests. All states make agreements and all states break agreements that no longer serve their interests. It is beyond the simple minded calculus of “right” and “wrong” but firmly in the realm of power. Don’t like the policies of State X while you live in State Y? Then State Y had better be strong enough to change the policies of State X or be able to put together a coalition, Y+n. If you are a citizen of State X then capture power in the method of your choosing and change the policies.

Prob, as usual resorts to his cutting and pasting to prop up a crumbling edifice. The history of Gujarat and any history of internecine strife is irrelevant and leads to childish “…yes, but, he did it first” arguments which ultimately lead into the maze of historical Right/Wrong bookkeeping and angels on the head of a pin. Granted it is an effective tool to keep people from looking at the here and now. This strife has been going on since before the time of the Mughal Empire and the Peacock Throne.

Ymar may be a bumbler, unable to construct a coherent comment, but he does seem to understand that the US is the dominant power in the world and will do as it pleases when it pleases. If a dominant majority of the American voting base decides differently then policies will change. Until then… “If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.”

Islamism is the problem, irrespective of any dancing around or wishful thinking. jgr’s reference to J.R. Dunn is one of the few lights in this comment thread.

It is all about power, people. Gaining power, exercising power and projecting power. Don’t like it? Then just ignore reality and go live in Cloud Cuckoo Land, the idealistic state where everything is perfect. After all, Aristophanes built it just for you.

Or, you can continue to be Lilliputians trying to tie Gulliver to the ground with threads. News Flash: Guilliver just woke up and is flossing with your damn threads. Don’t get in Gulliver’s way; he might step on you or flick you into eternity like a booger on his finger nail.

  16. Not only is Prbligo wrong, he also lies about rewriting of history. As Trimegistus points out, history proves that Muslims kill non-Muslims. I acknowledge the Gujrat defense of the native and indigenous Hindu population, and salute their self-defense.

  17. Y, that just HAS to be one of the most honest, most stupid, opinions I have ever read… even from you.

I do it just for you prob, cause I know you people on the Left just love it.

I’ll be waiting around until you realize that the counter-implication is that the US actually uses zero intimidation in the world.

If China sends people in to fight terroists, they will get the same thing Russia got. Their conscript armies will be churned up and they will have to rely upon their much smaller elite forces. That’s no way to project power.

Hey, did you know Genean Garafolo actually knows the entire roster name of Bush’s government by heart? I just heard her, she must be praying to those names..

We’ll read prob’s stuff when he posts links on his blog instead of on haloscan. In case people hadn’t realized, trying to read multiple pages from haloscan is so much more inconvenient than multiple tab browsing technology.

  18. Hey Cappy, are you just ranting about problems you have with people you don’t know and haven’t talked to or are you trying to get credibility from prob by telling him things he likes to hear?

  19. Prob,
You suggest that others read?!?!?!?!? wtf Your comments are laden with blind foolyery. You attempt to relativize the destuction of india under Islam. Best estimates to be 80 to 100 million killed for mohamad (sbuh) when the human population was a fraction of what it was in the 20th century. You are silly, ignorant, shallow and sick.

  20. One of the most annoying things about the news coverage is the unwillingness to use the words Islamists or Radical Islamists–that this is “sectarian violence” about Kashmir. This is the world wide war of Radical Islam vs. everyone else.

  21. No, wait guys, the lefties are right. We fascists tend to immediately point fingers at one target group (Muslims) every time we hear about some 100+ people or more being horribly killed in one instant. For all we know, this could be crazed Buddhists.

We should be more like the left in considering many directions in which to point blame.

This could have been Bush’s fault, or Rove’s, or Evangelist Christians, NASCAR dads or even the Joooo’s.

Also. being a “rouge nation” in the eyes of a liberal is not a bad thing. Its something to aspire to.

  23. “A “rouge nation” is a natural ally of a “mascara nation”!”

a-hem, er, um, yes, yes, that is what I meant exactly.

    um…

  24. As many have pointed out, Muslims are in conflict along their various borders with practically all their neighbors. Muslims are the chief authors of current terrorist attacks. The Koran and Hadith give religious sanction, indeed make it imperative, for Muslims to attack and kill, subdue or convert all non-Muslims until Islam and Sharia law rule all the world. The Koran and Hadith also sanction any kind of deception, particularly in dealings with Infidels, as long as it advances the cause of world conquest. Thus, there can be no binding, lasting agreements that Muslims cannot find justification for breaking.

The vast majority of Muslims are on the sidelines, maybe not openly cheering the Muslim team on, but helping in all sorts of ways–providing cover, funding, logistical support, blindness to certain things that transpire, and silence. They are not about to suddenly change sides and help the Infidel team who they have been taught, in tens of thousands of madrassas and mosques, consists of lesser, unclean beings infused with “ignorance.” If things go well with their team these Muslims have a vastly expanded and enriched umma to look foreward to.

With such an enemy war, conversion to Islam or submission are the only choices. I prefer war.

  25. “If things go well with their team these Muslims have a vastly expanded and enriched umma to look foreward to.”

Your comments make no sense for a number of reasons: (1) the Muslim world is not homogeneous, for one thing: there are sharp divisions between Shias and Sunnis for example; and (2) 50% of Muslims, namely Muslim women, have little benefit in the strengthening of theocratic Islam with its attendant Sharia laws.

So the idea that all or even most Muslims are on the side of the deranged militants is quite absurd.

  26. Nate said: (1) the Muslim world is not homogeneous, for one thing: there are sharp divisions between Shias and Sunnis for example; and (2) 50% of Muslims, namely Muslim women, have little benefit in the strengthening of theocratic Islam with its attendant Sharia laws.

These encyclopedia facts are supposed to counterclaim … a diagram, theory … fantasy?

    Okay back to reality…

Indeed, Snowonpine said: The vast majority of Muslims are on the sidelines, maybe not openly cheering the Muslim team on, but helping in all sorts of ways–providing cover, funding, logistical support, blindness to certain things that transpire, and silence.

    Arguably “silence” greatest of all.

Snowonpine would reply [and no doubt may yet] with something similar – and I would agree with a rationale for delay, “it can sure be damned exhausting”. Agreed, I just happened to have a bit of energy.

  27. Nate–While there are admittedly all sorts of internecine battles going on within Islam for power, influence and territory, whatever the outcome of these battles, Muslims will still confront Infidels as they have been taught.

As for your point number two–Muslim women do, indeed, have no choice. Until a female resistance movement springs up within Islam, this will always be the case. However reluctant you posit them to be, they will share in whatever booty their men capture, be it money, territories, or lots of dhimmis to work for them.

The lack of any susbstantial negative reactions or condemnations, from any segment of the 1.2 billion umma against terrorism in general or any of the terror attacks, is sufficient proof for me that Muslims in general are, indeed, sitting on the sidelines and waiting.

  28. “50% of Muslims, namely Muslim women, have little benefit in the strengthening of theocratic Islam with its attendant Sharia laws.”

In case you haven’t noticed, Muslims don’t generally do things that benefit themselves directly. They do what their leaders tell them to do, up to and including “blow yourself up to kill as many unbelievers as you can.”

That goes for the 50% female population as well. There may be no benefits for them in strengthening theocratic Islam, but they will do everything they can to strengthen it anyhow.

And no, your studies won’t ever reveal the reason for it. Because there is no reason for it.

  29. snowonpine wrote: “The lack of any susbstantial negative reactions or condemnations, from any segment of the 1.2 billion umma against terrorism in general or any of the terror attacks, is sufficient proof for me that Muslims in general are, indeed, sitting on the sidelines and waiting.”

    Incorrect. See below:

    http://www.icna.org/icna/

    “Wednesday, 12 July 2006
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a grassroots organization of American Muslims, condemns the train blasts in Mumbai, India that has killed about 183 people and wounded more than 700.”

  30. Ok, given the (quite unreasonable with MHW looking over my shoulder) strictures on what I am able to say and write –

It seems that there is some news on responsibility for the bombings.

Read this article from Time listed on google.news in just the last hour.

Monsters and Critics also has a comparatively objective and dispassionate summary of where current events are at.

What I wish YOU to do is to read the last three paras of the Time article.

The first of those three paras is (from my knowledge and reading) a fairly accurate portrayal of the truth. As such it answers most of the points raised by the post fact ipso fact arguments and unchecked and unwarranted insult from other hecklers in some of the earlier comments.

Yes, you all are right in that Muslims are responsible. You can all go “Yay!!! We were right!!”

But I want to draw your attention to two very important facts –

First, as was correctly pointed out to me earlier, there is a long history of Islam in India and in conflict with Hindi. I never disputed that.

Currently, there are 150 million Muslims in India. They represent a significant disadvantaged minority of 15% of the population.

The Time article mentions that India killed a million Muslims in the partition of Pakistan in 1947. It also mentions that “some millions more” have been killed in the three wars against Pakistan. That is all within living memory. There is no mention of equivalent Indian casualties. I would imagine that since Pakistan literally did not exist in 1947, the Indian casualties would have been comparatively light.

The article also mentions (actually describes as a pogrom) the state sponsored anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat in 2002, the same events that I referred to in my earlier post.

I do not condone the actions of either side. It is wrong in my opinion to include the Mumbai bombings in the same category as the anti-American actions of AlQaeda. This is not “another example of international Islamic terrorism”. It is no more than just the latest incident in an on-going war that started before 1947.

Also in the news in the past four hours is a report that the explosives used were the same as Indian Army standard demolition charges.

For (Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman) Sarna to claim that “no cause justifies the murder of innocent people” is hypocrisy indeed, given the Gujarat incident for a start.

Remember please, that I am only drawing this to your collective attention. I have not (please note old waspie) resorted to extensive c&p. This post MIGHT have been a little shorter if I had, but that is quite a different argument.

  31. probligo wrote: “For (Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman) Sarna to claim that “no cause justifies the murder of innocent people” is hypocrisy indeed, given the Gujarat incident for a start.”

The situation is more complex. The Gujarat violence against Muslims was carried out entirely by the BJP government at the state level. (BJP is the Hindu nationalist religious party).

The federal government (at the center), however, is led by the secularist Congress Party, and is supported (from the outside) by the left parties. The Congress Party or the left parties had not been involved in the violence against Muslims in India, and so the comment isn’t really hypocritical.

  32. Nate—So I see you’ve dredged up an instance of a Muslim organization, The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), condemning the Mumbai terrorist bombings. You should have looked a little more deeply when you went looking for a poster boy for Muslim condemnation of terrorism.

If you go a few pages deeper into Google you’ll see articles saying that ICNA is being investigated by the FBI and Congress for its connections to Al-Q, the Taliban and Hamas and that ICNA is apparently a Western front for Pakistan’s most powerful Islamist organization, the militant, fundamentalist, Jama’at-i –Islami (JI). These stories indicate that ICNA’s written statements and actions are not always so lovey-dovey.

So while ICNA seems very good at issuing reasonable sounding press releases and peaceful rhetoric, they obviously have an agenda quite different from the one they present to us here in the West.

  33. snowonpine wrote: “If you go a few pages deeper into Google you’ll see articles saying that ICNA is being investigated by the FBI and Congress for its connections to Al-Q,”

Hmm.. “is being investigated” and you automatically assume they’re guilty …whatever happened to the idea of “presumption of innocent until proved guilty” ???

  34. Nate—Read the posts on Google. Seems like the head of JI, one Qazi Hussein Ahmed, came to the U.S. for a little meeting at Woodside, NY in July 2000 in which he was the only representative for ICNA. Mr. Ahmed, who met with Bin Laden in the Sudan and got “a fiery message of support” from BL in 1998, was quite a fiery speaker himself at the Woodside meeting.

Ahmed, who is reported to have called the U.S. a “world Terrorist” and advocated “martyrdom operations in Iraq, Israel, Chechnya and Kashmir” told the Woodside meeting that the U.S. was “the Antichrist” and stated that “jihad is on” against the “U.S. superpower” according to notes from the meeting. After his statement that “The sword and the Qur’an go together,” he got several rousing “Allahu Akbars” from the hundreds attending, according to these same notes.

At first the ICNA president said he had no knowledge of the Woodside meeting, and did not know why Ahmed would represent ICNA. When informed that the reporter had information Ahmed had come to the U.S. to speak at the ICNA convention as well as the Woodside event, ICNA’s president then said, well we “maintain relations” with the JI ..”just to know what they’re doing.” and that when JI leaders come to the U.S., “we meet with them and have them address our conventions” but, “we have no practical connections with them.”

You may believe these jokers innocent, I don’t. Seems like a strong smell of Taqiyya and Kitman in the air.

  35. To those who have been trying to justify these heinous acts by claiming that India has been ‘persecuting’ muslims:

Nothing could be farther from the truth. If anything, it’s the Hindu majority that has been routinely persecuted by the liberal socialist congress party. The key ingredient in Indian Politcs is the ‘vote bank’ mollycoddling. In order to secure the muslim vote bank, the left have shamelessly catered to muslim savagery. They have allowed Sharia Law to be practiced in Muslim communities, they have practically legalised rape and pedophilia among muslims. There are separtate laws for muslims, allowing them to commit polygamy and even marry their daughters on occasion (incest). They steal Hindu taxpayer money and give it to muslims to commit the hajj. Muslims have engaged in massive persecution of Hindus for 900 years in India. They have slaughtered an average of 80000 hindus per year for 5 centuries. Hindus have had ‘jizya’ and ‘dhimmitude’ imposed upon them, and Hindu widows have had to immolate themselves rather than be raped by muslims. Muslims went on wild iconoclastic binges, destroying any Hindu relic or temple that they could lay their eyes on.

In recent years, the partition riots (which somebody mentioned) claimed more Hindu lives than muslims. All of the major riots during the 1947 partition of the Indian Subcontinent were instigated by muslims.

Thes and other reasons are what perpetrated the Ramjanmabhoomi (Babri Mosque) incident in India in the 90s:

    http://www.danielpipes.org/article/368

Regarding the Gujarat riots, the instigators were muslims, again. They attacked and burnt down a train (Sabarmati Express) of Hindu pilgrims and the Hindus retaliated.

WARNING: These pictures of Muslim atrocities against Hindus are EXTREMELY GRUESOME:

    http://www.fisiusa.org/fisi_pages/godhra_photos.htm

This was because the communist left government in India would rather see their fellow Hindus die than irritate the muslim vote bank by officially retaliating against them. This level of self-hatred is the reality of Indian politics.

To get a balanced and clear perspective of the hindu-muslim situation in India, please read the following:

    http://koenraadelst.bharatvani.org/articles/fascism/PolSec03AyubKhan1.html

The incompetent left wing and their islamic terrorist bedfellows have libelously demonized the Hindu Nationalist movement in India. Hindutva is a national liberation movement for the Hindu people (similar in many respects to Zionism in israel) and aims to resolve the right for Hindus to live in a democratic Hindu state (just like Israel is a democratic Jewish state) and repair the damage done to our civilization by muslims. Muslims want to convert India into an Islamic theocracy, as well as cede Kashmir to Pakistan.

    Hindus have a legitimate cla

  36. Like the Levant, there is both wrong and right on both sides.

    Do not judge in haste.
    probligo

Obviously. The fact that we see just as many Hindu terror bombers as Muslim terror bombers proves that.

You know, Muslims blow up trains in Spain, Hindus blow up, uhh . . . ?

Or Muslims set off bombs in London, and Hindus blow up, uhh . . . ?

  37. Regarding probligo’s rather biased comments, here is another article rebutting the propaganda of the secular left wing Indian media (specifically that damn pinko moonbat Arundhati Roy and her liberal screed againt Hindus regarding the riots) and it’s unfair demonization of the Sangh Parivar (the ‘Hindu Right Party’ as the press calls it) in the Godhra Business:

    http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?sid=1&fodname=20020708&fname=Column+Balbir+%28F%29

Please read. A balanced perspective is required here in order to understand the complexity of the situation and how badly it’s been reported by an irresponsible and sensationalist media.
