Nightline tonight? — 17 Comments

  1. “Rove: Mr. Gannon, please fetch the Device. And put some pants on, for God’s sake.”

That line will never get old.

  2. So, smoking gun on the WMD? Or, smoke gets in your eyes? Or, smoke and mirrors?

Erasmus was kind enough to answer my question of “Who started calling it a Smoking gun”. Obviously it was the Bush Lied, no WMDs found and people died crowd. They obviously knew the tapes weren’t jack in terms of propaganda, so they misdirected us, they lied to us, to make us think it was something that it was’t. Bait and switch. Now comes the finisher.

So, this morning the “smoking gun” turns out to be a flickering fiasco. Nothing there, folks, move on to the next show.

See. It is not elegant propaganda, but like I warned in the beginning, it is something of a media and Leftist SOP. Raise expectations, produce good hype and tenuous suggestions. Then CRUSH your spirit by showing that something was nothing. Then, the coup de grace, is the accussation that we didn’t know what we were talking about. Oh, okay, fiasco right. I do tend to think that kind of propaganda technique, is a little bit too old. After that time in which it blew up in Dan rather’s face, it got real old. Dan Rather is a good example of what happens when you believe in your own propaganda. This time some guy forged the memos, and it would have gone great. The news would have said these memos were “pro-Bush”. Then when we found out that they were faked and anti-Bush, the media would have said “I told you so, the Bushies were trying to fake something and pin it on us”.

Many, propaganda is a little bit confusing sometimes.

Why can’t the anti-Bushies just do the Texas talk and leave the rest of us out of their games?

BUT, and this is what I was saying, we LOVE to get into the Cheney weekend follies,

Republicans love it too! The Conservative back bone has nothing against Cheney being Cheney. He shoots people, that is what he does for a living, come on man! Or what he would like to do, just as Rice would like to be a manager for sports football.

Erasmus needs to stop drinking coffee. It is bad for you.

Protect America, but what kind of society will there be to protect?

You don’t know how to protect America, judging by the many questions and lack of descriptions of your policies.

If you don’t know, how do you expect anyone else to convince you of something you have no basis to believe in?

“The fact that Iraq didn’t have the cards are (is, actually) beside the point at this juncture.”

Your words. And you accuse ME of throwing “Marxist confetti” How so Marxist? Because I care about the economic decline of certain segments of our population? Hardly Marxist, that. (Once we abandondoned much of our manufacturing base, engineering began to follow, then R + D…not good.)
Now, I expressed my (strong) views on the importance about national security and fighting the threat from Islam on the post called “The West–reluctant self propagandists,” 5:14 pm, Feb 14.
But you don’t care. Blind faith in everything Bush and Cheney do, whether it is thought out, effective, and whether or not they deal honestly with the American people.
It’s so easy to throw terms like “Marxism” at those with whom you disagree. It’s much harder to make a case for how the current administration actually is waging a war on Islamofascism.
If you could do that, I’d listen and respond. But I must ask you this: let’s say, in 20 or 25 years from now, we have “won” this war. No more threats and attacks against the West.
And will there be joy in the mean streets of Elmira, NY, or in the devastated towns in Michigan, where the decent and prosperous middle class culture has been replaced with low-wage despair and hopelessness? You cannot have failed to read about these issues.
Protect America, but what kind of society will there be to protect? I’m asking the question.

  4. erasmus: Don’t be try to be ingenuous. It just doesn’t fly here.

The US needed a ground presence in the Middle East in order to fulfill its’ foreign policy goals as the “…expeditionary wing of Western Liberal Values, which represent the last best hope for mankind.” (Schoeneman)Iraq got picked for any number of reasons, all sound. This was an option both pre and post 911. This administration made it happen.

Since it doesn’t make any sense to reveal to the opposition what cards you have in your and and your sequence of play, These foreign policy goals were not explicitly revealed and were justified by Saddam’s regime not living up to the agreements that resulted in the first Gulf War cease fire as well as a messages from Saddam that Iraq was a clear and present danger. The fact that Iraq didn’t have the cards are beside the fact at this juncture.

Now, the US has a ground presence in the ME and this will make it easier to deal with the current foreign policy challenge; Iran. The entire foreign policy paradigm has changed.

You’re still throwing the Marxist confetti in the air and it’s getting a little stale. Your “arguments”; to dignify them with a name they don’t deserve; are way past their sell date and are beginning to smell.

I’m certainly not distracted by them and I’m sure no one else here is either. You’re playing the same old shell game.

The Democrats are out of picture on the dominant political issue, national security. And, they will be for the forseeable future.

  5. “Terrorism is not the only new danger of this era. Another is the administration’s argument that because the president is commander in chief, he is the “sole organ for the nation in foreign affairs.” That non sequitur is refuted by the Constitution’s plain language, which empowers Congress to ratify treaties, declare war, fund and regulate military forces, and make laws ‘necessary and proper’ for the execution of all presidential powers. Those powers do not include deciding that a law — FISA, for example — is somehow exempted from the presidential duty to ‘take care that the laws be faithfully executed,'”

  6. Oh, typos above:

    had to do something

    distract distractions

Sorry. Too early, too little coffee

  7. So, this morning the “smoking gun” turns out to be a flickering fiasco. Nothing there, folks, move on to the next show.
    You missed my point.
The conservative FAITH is that Bush et al led the campaign vs Saddam in the sincere belief that the bad boy had WMD. Instead, W had to SOMETHING after 9-11, and hunting down small terrorist groups in the mountains and hidden away in cities is tough, with few grand results. So, stick it to Saddam. (Who deserved sticking it to, but by less destructive means.)
The FAITH of the Left is that the USA is the Big Satan intent on making the world safe its vicious corporations, exploiting third-world people and destroying the environment.
Between both of these absurd “belief systems” (vooddo systems) the real problems of our country receive only slight attentioin:
job losses, rotting infrastructure, decaying cities (look to upstate NY, Hillary), inadequate health care, third-rate schools etc etc

BUT, and this is what I was saying, we LOVE to get into the Cheney weekend follies, the Ted Kennedy weekend boozing manslaughter almost 40 years ago, sudden appearance of tapes—
SHOW BIZ for the Conservatives one time, SHOW BIZ for the liberal/left another.

So, before you bring out your guns (verbal), look at what these brouhahas detract us from. But hey, we love the detractions. They are fun. True.
And the 30,000 laid off by Ford. Tough shit. Global economy, pal. Better you than me.
Meanwhile in NYC, the Harvard MBAs are offred a $1.000 sundae at one of the city’s finer restaurants.
    Way it goes. Yup.

  8. Re: Erasmus: When an octopus or other member of the cuttlefish family is threatened, it can jet away filling the surrounding water with ink which an attacker can mistake for the animal itself. It also clouds the water momentarily making pursuit difficult.

Look at all the meme words thrown up in the air like confetti while E. scuttles away hoping the predators here attack the memes.

    Oh! Look over there!

It would be funny if it wasn’t so hopeless.

  9. Maybe it is real, look how erasmus is spazzing out. Or maybe he’s just spazzing out to trick us into thinking it’s real.

Of course, the TANG memo business was a plot by Karl Rove. I mean, what else could it be?

  10. Holy Jesus/Moses/Muhammad:

    The Politics of Paranoia!

The Conservatives: The Left and the MSM are the enemy. (The Left = anyone not pro-Bush/Cheney, vs.the rich getting richer, WalMart, corporate socialism etc.)

The “Liberals” and the multitude of Leftists lurking out there, in every college, on every newspaper, the thousands and thousands of leftist, Un-American supporters of socialist schemes, gay marriage, and Hollywood porn: the conservatives. fascists, right-wing corporate tools of ruthless capitalism are the enemy.

Vince Foster was killed. Who did it? Hillary? Desd-Eye Dick Cheney? The CIA?
Bush is Hitler. Well, maybe just Goebbels. Well, maybe just Mussolini.

All this horseshit, and who gets screwed? The working lower and middle middle class.

But hey, in PEOPLE magazine style and manner, we got the “smoking gun”–on what? Vince? Hillary? Madonna? Abramoff? Dumb and dumber, slimy and slimier. But hey, entertainment R us.
Economics? Wages? Real income? Jobs growth vs population growth? BOOORING.

So, smoking gun on the WMD? Or, smoke gets in your eyes? Or, smoke and mirrors? Those WMD got to be SOMEWHERE? With Jimmy Hoffa? OK, in Syria. Hey, kids, let’s invade.

Oh my, I remember the Truman-Dewey campaign of 1948.

But we were another country then.

  11. Of course, this assumes the tapes aren’t fake. Some leftist looking to score a little payback and not caring that it’s Ted Koppel, rather than Rush Limbaugh, that he’s targeting.

  12. Oh, it’s already started.

“Just because Saddam himself didn’t know he had no WMDs, it’s no excuse for Bush not to know it! And since Bush had to know Saddam didn’t have WMDs, he lied to us to start a war!”

  13. The tapes are being called the “smoking gun” of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq.

Who called it the smoking gun I wonder… If it was the media, are they setting the program up for a fall already?

  14. Didnt Saddam get the memo from Howard Dean and Hans Blix that there were no WMD’s in Iraq?

I cant wait for the stream of “yes buts” that will come from the left on this.

“Yes but, that doesnt give us the right to invade a sovereign nation”

“yes but saddam was our ally Don rumsfeld shook his hand”

“Yes but, Iraq was still no threat”

“yes but, we should have let the sanctions work”

Oh wait, that last one was after the last war against Saddam…

  15. I’m following this one too. It’s always seemed likely to me that the weapons were transported to Syria and/or hidden in Iraq.

If they’ve really got a smoking gun, it’s going to be very bad news for the anti-war folks. The hard-core will manage to discount or rationalize, of course, but I’d say another 3-5% of swing voters come over to supporting the war–especially with all Islamic cartoon riots, Hamas in Palestine and the very real crisis with Iranian nukes. This would make a big difference in the 2006 and 2008 elections.

    Knock on wood.

  16. Cheney is a killer, and that’s why people better pray Bush doesn’t get the assassination they are so hopeful for.

Get rid of Bush and Cheney will get rid of You.

If you value your life, pray for a “Live long and prosper” Bush life. No burning the bush time.

If you do watch it, prepare yourself for a psychological rollercoaster. Because the media is very good at getting your hopes up (Iraqis throwing flowers, cheering, and pulling statues down) and then crushing your little spirit into pulp with suicide bombs, IEDs, and etc.

Effective breaking of will usually requires a very high morale point. Doesn’t really matter if it is a person affected or an army.

Expect defeat, so that victory may be worked for in secret.
