The still point in the turning world — 5 Comments

  1. congrats on your blog and your first? powerlanche.—-

i was raised in a jewish (cultural not religious) left wing home in nyc.—

i was reading weblogs before 9/11 but that date was to me a turning point.–

re: jeans on people, if they have the body for it, go for it. just please no belly shirts on people with big bellies. 😉

your comment on how quickly things turn remind me of political events and how everything seems to come crashing down at once.–

look at the fall of the berlin wall, fall of the romainian dictator who no one thought would ever leave, the break up of the USSR, the demonstrations in Lebanon etc.—

it doesn’t take much, a few outspoken persons can be the catalyst the brings a rotten edifice down.

  2. The poor Brits – denied the joys of bluejeans once they hit the wall of, what, 40? 50? I’m 56 and LIVE in bluejeans – so I’m ready for anything – digging in the garden, walking the dog, lunch with friends (add heels and a suede jacket and you can look sooo chic). It’s sad to be so constrained by societal “shoulds.” At 56, I’ve earned the right to wear whatever I please!

  3. Well, Blogger seems to be working for you again. Congratulations on your new-found notoriety!

  4. Poor Camilla (my almost age mate)…truth is, she’s giving up a lot to marry Prince Charles. I positively glory in the fact that I wear blue jeans (most often with dirty knees, no less) pretty much everyday as I grub about my bushes, flower beds and property. I love the fact that I grocery shop at Walmart where the fashion standards are nonexistent. I feel very fortunate to live an invisible life and have few people pass judgement on me. My husband and I view each other kindly and practice the golden rule so we can both get pretty grubby during the course of a day without the other making a snide comment.

  5. I apologize in advance because this comment has nothing to do with this post about Camille’s fashion (I’m a 21 yr old college guy, whose ‘fashion’ consists of a hoody, baggy jeans, and a ball cap everyday!). I found you’re blog from NRO’s the Corner and read through ‘The Mind is a Difficult Thing to Change’ series about your political conservion. I think it’s pretty cool had this experience. I’ve been a conservative all my life, and after three years in college I’ve managed to remain a right-winger (although I’m not fully on board with the social conservative agenda, namely their antagonism toward gays). I love reading about how other people, like Roger Simon, have gone through similiar conversions. In the same vain, I think it’s important to read about people that have gone the other way as well. Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Love your blog and will be a regular reader. You might want to check out my blog as well: http://demrealists.blogspot.com.

    Best,
    Matt
