stan – I just laughed at the Stacy Abrams’ gaffe. It seems pretty clear that Democratic candidates are being coached to turn every question back to abortion. I suspect that Abrams just allowed her mouth to run a little faster than her brain. Of course the implications of her statement are monsterous, but it also demonstrates that she is just a bad candidate, and laughably so.
Biden and Democrats announce that the key to energy problems is to speed up permits for clean energy.
We have an entire political party and supporters (including nearly all journalists, professors, et al.) who are so insane/stupid that they might as well be touting burning rainbow-colored unicorn farts.
Covid, energy, inflation, crime, election integrity, education, science …. this insanity is KILLING people and wrecking lives. Over and over and over the story is the same: a determined rejection of reality and logic along with a willingness to kill millions, even billions, of people in an irrational pursuit of unicorns.
How many deaths will be enough? How many wrecked lives? When will we stop providing excuses for the people who vote to support policies that kill and destroy?
Maybe this is nothing, but I recently noticed something odd.
I live in upstate NY. As everyone knows, New York state is pretty damn deep blue. As such Chuck Schumer has had a very safe lock on his Senate seat since he won it way back in 1998 (outsing Al D’Amato). There’s never been a serious reason to ever doubt that a well ensconced (D) incumbent like Schumer could ever actually lose a re-election bid in New York. And in all the previous years he’s run (2004, 20010, 2016), I can’t ever recall ever seeing an actual Schumer campaign commercial up here. I mean, why waste the money on a sure thing? But for his 2022 re-election bid for some reason, he’s currently running TV ads up here on our local stations, and they seem like fairly exepensive ones.
To be clear, I’m in no way suggesting there’s some big chance that he could actually lose his seat. But I do find it intresting that a fair sum of money is being outlayed for something that should be an absolute lock.
“…Even worse…”
That “WHY AREN’T YOU WINNING?” is pretty funny….
Hmm, let’s give it a stab….
“Well, you’re absolutely right, Nate, absolutely—and I don’t believe in buttering people up, I tell it like it is, you know that—and don’t think I don’t ask myself that very same question, I do. All the time. And, honestly, I can’t figure it out. For the life of me, I can’t. You know, I have this great body, this beautiful face, this amazing smile—and don’t get me started on my teeth—I just radiate beauty, competence, empathy, talent, LOVE…and smarts, I’m super intelligent—no, I DON’T believe in false modesty, no I don’t, you know I don’t do that, everyone knows that—but then, you know, I open my mouth and, well, something really strange happens, I don’t know, people just seem to tune out, and then they kinda disappear on me and I tell myself, Girl this is NOT happening, no it’s not…but it is, I gotta be honest—You know I’m honest, some times I think I’m too honest—so I don’t know, I really have no idea. Maybe I’m talking above them. Maybe it’s my tone of voice. Maybe I should tone it down and speak to the people like they want to be spoken to, I really can’t figure this out. It is crazy frustrating for me. Crazy, I’m at a total loss…. BUT I don’t quit. I’ll never quit. Stacey Abrams never quits…”
Schumer….
Well, maybe he IS frightened, or unsure. And/or maybe he has a teeny weensy bit of conscience—MAYBE—I mean that photo of him dancing while “Biden” was abandoning Afghanistan, leaving American soldiers and Afghanis to twist in the wind, not to mention all that materiel…was…let’s call it unseemly. Embarrassing.
And all those lies and all “Biden”‘s lies and the shape the country is now in—maybe he IS aware of all that (once again, MAYBE).
And that sweet-talking Joe Manchin into the latter’s grand betrayal and the aftermath of THAT—i.e., the subsequent betrayal of Manchin (who says reality isn’t a Greek tragedy?)—maybe THAT’s what’s gnawing at Schumer’s conscience, that is, assuming he has one. Or at least has him worried.
Indeed, fear can make one humble (or pretend to be…).OTOH, it’s also a great motivator…(hence those ads?)
I was amused when Manchin decided—publicly—that Schumer’s betrayal was really the Republicans’ fault. (Well that sure didn’t take long, did it? I said to myself…)
But now that I think about it, I kind of agree with Manchin’s blaming the Republicans for all that. At least a bit. They really shoulda provided Manchin with a long, long spoon. Shoulda. But didn’t. Fell down on the job on that one…and so…gave Schumer and his pals a whole new lease on life.
Gave “Biden” the keys to destroying the kingdom.
What “he” was aching for.
What “he” was dreaming of.
Well, there’s enough blame to go around, for sure.
OTOH it could be far more prosaic:
After Cuomo’s “grand finale” and Hochul’s piss-poor follow-up performance; after de Blasio’s planned destruction of NYC and Adams’s seeming determination to finish the job; after Nadler’s very public lying on the national and global stage regarding the mythic nature of antifa along with his horrendous performances during Congressional hearings; maybe, just maybe the hairs on the back of Schumer’ politically sensitive neck are prickling with an unmistakable sense of doom and disaster, the sweat collecting under his armpits and crotch…as hard as that might be to believe.
(They sure oughtta be.)
Biden has achieved so much – according to San Fran nan.
Let’s see.
So, what’s up? To name a few things
1. The price of all the necessities of life; Gas, groceries, utilities, cars, etc.
2. Violent crime in Democrat run cities and counties.
3. Interest rates.
I4. Illegal crossings at the porous southern border.
5. Human and sex trafficking.
6. Drug addiction and overdose deaths.
7. FBI raids on non-violent suspects.
8. Homelessness in most cities.
And, what’s down?
1. Stock market and 401ks.
2. Supplies of baby formula.
3. Convictions of violent criminals in Democrat run cities and counties.
4. Supplies of basic commodities – oil, natural gas, lumber, cement, base metals, etc.
5. Trust in the FDA and CDC.
6. Number of police officers employed in high crime cities.
7. Educational achievement scores.
8. People in the labor force.
Yep, Speaker Pelosi, Biden has done a superb job………….if you hate America.
Extraordinary dexterity and skill. Good for her. No envy.
About Schumer – Does NY have straight line voting? If so, perhaps he realizes that more people will be voting by position or pull the Republican lever.
JJ – You forgot that there may be a shortage of baby diapers which is why Stacy supports abortion. Fewer people, lower demand, lower inflation. I think it was Stacy who said this, but at least some D said it.
If you have a gander at the LinkedIn comments Ace reproduces at the end of this sorry tale, you get fine examples of Thos. Sowell’s observation that fallacies about social life recur in cycles. We relive the 1970s every day now.
Does NY have straight line voting?
No.
CDC advisory board voted unanimously to add the mRNA COVID shots to the childhood immunization schedule. No. Just no. They are setting off a nationwide parental revolt.
Imagine having school age children subject to this mandate. It’s a nightmare.
Of course it was unanimous. On the upside, that potentially makes the cleaning job simpler for a future reformist administration.
One more chance for a sane decision: The CDC itself will vote on the immunization question tomorrow.
That playing was spectactular, for any age.

Elaine T:
Quite so!
Rick Beato was surprised that none of the big names in rock or jazz he talked to had heard of Argerich. I haven’t either, though that’s a low bar. My knowledge of classical is checkered.
But still, not to know the greatest pianist of the past 60 years or perhaps of all time is a bit weird. I certainly know Horowitz and Gould and they are somewhere on that list.
Beato says she mostly performs in Europe, so that may be the rub.
Anyway, a great find. Clearly Argerich has aged richly! That Scarlatti excerpt @ 8:15 was unearthly.
I love these high-functioning oldster stories. The old conventional wisdom was that you were born with 100 billion brain cells, give or take, but it was all downhill after you reached adulthood.
Then, they discovered neurogenesis — regenerating new brain cells! I did a big fist-pump when I read that. Here’s a popsci commercial link nonetheless with good info.
I turned 70 this year and I feel like I’m at some kind of peak. I probably had more potential when I was younger, but I was so screwed-up then, I wasn’t accessing much of it.
Argerich is great, but Beato’s amazement suggests he’s not that knowledgeable about classical musicians. What he says about Argerich is true of many great musicians. I saw Artur Rubinstein perform a 2-hour recital when he was 89. Horowitz performed well into his 80s.
Also, about Argerich, unless I missed it, he didn’t mention that she’s had serious health issues, including cancer.

Gosh with achievements like that, how can “Biden” possibly lose in November??
Not only is Argerich a great pianist, she was also, let us say, extremely easy on the eyes in her youth. She still looks good.
