Niketas:

Yes, as far as I know it was just one reporter (Jack Grove), and it was fairly late in the game. Then again, Arday had only gained fame in 2023 when he got the Cambridge appointment. Before then I don't think he was all that well-known.

I also imagine that, even knowing nothing about what happened to Grove, reporters in Britain would be very wary of investigating Arday. It would be easy to predict that they'd be accused of being racists and haters of people with autism.

“There are some ideas so absurd that only an intellectual could believe them.”
--- George Orwell*

Just substitute in "claims" for "ideas" and "academic" for "intellectual", and there ya go.

* . . . possibly a paraphrase, possibly of a Bertrand Russell quotation

@neo:Arday sicced the police on a reporter who merely tried to investigate him.

Not sure why this is to me. But that happened in 2025, not back in say, 2010 when they reported on his running 30 marathons in 35 days and didn't report who organized any of the other marathons, quote any participants, list locations or dates, etc. Just ran whatever he emailed to the reporter. That kind of basic reporting would not be hostile or critical questioning, just Reporting 101. ("Which of your 30 marathons was the toughest? Where and when was that one? What medical treatment did you need for your fracture? And where was that?" Etc.)

I've seen no evidence that he's been siccing the cops on reporters this whole time, I suppose it's possible, but all I've seen is since his academic work was questioned, and the prior 15 years nobody did anything but take his unsupported word, apparently.

But the cops should have laughed him off the phone. That the cops did Arday's bidding is not on Arday, that's on their organization. Like I said, this is bigger than Cambridge, bigger than Arday, bigger than academia.

The Arday case is so extraordinary and outrageous that it deserves piling on. That Arday refuses all responsibility and lays it all off on racism makes it even worse.

Furthermore, this isn't a victimless crime. As the following article asks:

--Yuan Yi Zhu, "WHO HAD TO LOSE FOR JASON ARDAY TO WIN?"
https://instapundit.com/815093/

There are a whole lot of bright, hardworking, white/male/Asian applicants for such elite positions who just couldn't make the cut because they were the wrong gender or race, so The Powers That Be gave that job to a DEI hire, however less qualified.

Then, as neo mentions, Arday has also damaged bright, hardworking, black scholars (or black professionals in general) because after Cambridge University hired and defended an obvious fraud DEI candidate, people are likely further suspicious of any black professional's competence.

An all-around disaster.

Can higher education learn? We shall see.

It's not that difficult to see through Arday and its a reasonable wager the parties implicated in hiring him and defending him knew perfectly well he was a fabulist. Just a review of his bibliography would make plain he lacks basic skills to undertake quantitative social research.
==
What this tells us is that performative games at these institutions trump any sort of intellectual achievement as something people pursue. They do so at Britain's most venerable institution bar one. They do so, because the people employed there are liars and frauds. You can indubitably find many serious scholars therein, but they make no effort to influence institutional life outside the hallway where their department is located.
==
The other irony is that British society had in 1960 very few black or brown people. A common excuse trotted out 40 years ago for this sort of political patronage was 'making up for past...blah blah blah'. Well, there was no past blah blah blah, though you can find spot examples from Britain's once tiny minority population (see E.R. Braithwaite's memoir).
