The biggest danger of the DSA types, and indeed the mainstream of the Democratic party now, is the willingness to change/break institutions. People will figure out that leftism is a disaster, eventually, but after all of the left's "reforms," it may not matter.

As to which demographic is most to blame, I think the answer is "yes, and." But do not for a moment underestimate how radical the younger generations are. Socialist utopian ideas really do have a superficial beauty to those who lack the worldliness and adult experience to understand why they are so catastrophically incompatible with human nature. We used to inoculate kids to the siren song of socialism with faith, family, and a stable economy, but that inoculation is failing this generation.

And don't underestimate the damage that the past 10+ years of Trump has done to the right among the younger generations. Kids follow the example of the adult leadership, including Trump. We can sit here and have high level discussions about what Trump meant or didn't mean and dismiss "mean tweets," and all that. I can tell you from experience, however, that the kids don't see it that way. Many of the kids who are on the right are drinking deeply from the Trumpian lesson that edginess is a virtue. Take kids, whose brains haven't fully developed anyway, and teach them to be edgy about matters of race, relations between the sexes, and every other sensitive topic you can think of. Then imagine the result. That's what we have.

So if you are a late teen or young adult thinking about what your politics will be, you see one group of your peers who want to share things better, help people, and stop genocide. You see another group of your peers who throwing around the "N" word, talking about Mexicans being murderers and rapists, and otherwise being deliberately provocative. Which group would your 16-year-old self most want to associate with?

That's the challenge. And I fear that the hour is much later than many of us realize.

On the topic of “How to Effectively Destroy the City You Govern”, Karen [Large-Mouth] Bass is in a prime position to give Madmani some excellent pointers, though it’s crystal clear that he really doesn’t need an iota of assistance…

Opening graf:

The fire chief whom Karen Bass fired, the only person ever officially blamed for the city's disastrous response to the 2025 Pacific Palisades Fire, has fired back. Kristin Crowley has followed through on her threat to sue the Los Angeles mayor for defamation and retaliation for her dismissal….

This post addresses many of the observations raised here.
FWIW, I'm not getting paid to link Jeff's posts, I just really enjoy reading them.

https://www.coffeeandcovid.com/p/clowns-and-civil-wars-wednesday-may
?? CLOWNS AND CIVIL WARS ? Wednesday, May 24, 2026 ? C&C NEWS ?
"A pack of inexperienced communists just stole a state senate seat and two House seats from Democrats in New York, and the media claims some kind of progressive victory. But it was a blue disaster."
Jeff Childers

The folks at Red State amplify different facets of the situation, but don't shed a lot more light on the subject, other than gloating over the beating that the Democrat "establishment" is getting from their "populist" fringe (the outright socialists).

Somewhat parallel to the shellacking that the Republican establishment got from the MAGA populists.

"Populist" is political jargon for "people the voters prefer who aren't in our club."

The ? represent emoji-style graphics that didn't make the transfer. Jeff uses a lot of them.

Now you're misinterpreting me - which, granted, is an easy thing to do online. Just to be clear, I certainly don't think you're antisemitic.

I simply meant that personal experience doesn't necessarily convey the truth about the scope of some phenomenon. And of course you already knew that, but I wanted to put the actual numbers out there

I was speaking only of the Jews I myself have known. All were as I said. My experience is my experience and I can't change that. I get your point but it is not relevant to my experience. I exclude Orthodox Jews from my assessment because I've never known any. Also you are misinterpreting me. It seems you think I'm saying something which I'm not saying and which I don't mean. You know very well that I'm not antisemitic. Quite the contrary. That's not what I'm about in saying what I said. I'm one of the good guys
