When I read junk like this, I wonder if these people ever had a basic physics course. This is very common.
” passes through the atmosphere and warms the surface. In turn, the heated surface re-radiates energy”
When a photon is absorbed, it is annihilated, ceases to exist, gone, vanished. It isn’t put into a storage room and later re-radiated. If a photon is radiated, it’s a brand-new photon
-- Ray

Yeah, but to be fair, the story didn't say that it was the same photon, it said that the energy is reradiated. Which is also sloppy from a physics standpoint, of course. Light is not made of energy, it has energy.

But in a colloquial language sort of way, they at least get the basic heating mechanism, which is more than many people writing about this stuff do.

Yeah, but to be fair, the story didn’t say that it was the same photon, it said that the energy is reradiated. Which is also sloppy from a physics standpoint, of course. Light is not made of energy, it has energy.

Tom Grey, one of the charts here supports physicsguy's comment.

But the graphic from this link shows very dramatically the very small fraction of CO2 in the atmosphere and thus the minimal impact in can in fact have. I understand it was originally created by a researcher at the Heritage Foundation in 2009:

Tom Grey,

No, it's not 0.0% only if you are doing rounding. It is 0.04%. Yes, a small percentage by molecule count of the atmosphere, but essential for life as it supplies all plant growth. It does contribute to the greenhouse effect, but only minimally. Water vapor is the primary GHG by a large margin. CO2 has only one major absorption band at 15microns wavelength, while H2O has numerous bands that far outweigh CO2. If one wants some direct evidence of H2O's greenhouse effect just compare a 90degree day in the desert and the tropics and then compare the night time temperature of those locations later in the day.

Global climate warming / changing / whatevering.

One could only conclude it had to be FALSE because of WHO was pushing it, the intensity at which it was being pushed and the hysterical if methodical cancellation of those who refused to get on board that pathetic train wreck.

(OTOH it proved to be an impressively effective grift…so hats off to the grifters!! Well played!!)

Ha on global cooling, few alarmists even know that CO2 makes up 0.0% of the atmosphere.*

We need more solar powered air-conditioning, especially in Europe, as well as all forms of desalination for more irrigation water.
—
It’s good to prosecute Comey. He was explicitly using known code words to support, thus incite, violence against the President. A jury might agree yet say not guilty, or guilty, or might not agree.

What will Dems say, like those wanting to tone down talk of political violence. If society wants less incitement, it needs to indict & punish those who do incite violence. In particular, Comey’s incitement is more clear than that alleged against Trump for Jan 6. Each and every Dem who was on TV claiming Trump incited violence should be asked about Comey inciting violence. With Comey worse, it’s possible to claim Comey guilty yet Trump not, which is my position. Turkey’s more common position is that neither is incitement.

I’d expect Trump haters to claim Trump was worse, so ok to punish him. What makes a phrase incitement?

*1% = 10,000/ppm (parts per million), 100ppm = 0.01, so 499ppm is still 0.0%.
CO2 has gone up from ~230 to ~450. Big increase of very small numbers.

(3) "What difference at this point does it make?" ;)

physicsguy's point: I believe it was around 2001 that there was a pause in the increasing temperatures usually published by the climate folks. I think that while those numbers are "massaged" and cherry picked to some extent, even those numbers had mostly stopped increasing. This pause continued for several more years and it got the climate folks worried enough that "climate change" became the new mantra.

It's also interesting that the official IPCC projections for global temperatures going forward a number of decades have been reined in greatly compared to the hysteria of say the late 1990's.
