If she thinks Gavin Newsome or Kamala Harris can defeat JD Vance or Marco Rubio, she’s delusional. She’ll never be Secretary of State.

The Democratic candidate won in 2020 even though he was the most stupefyingly bad candidate imaginable. They nearly won in 2024 in spite of the dementia, the inflation, and the 12 million people traipsing over the southern border. They could nominate a dead dog in the road and get 48% of the ballots nowadays with their cheating apparatus and the large population of the deluded and feckless in this country. That wasn't true 16 years ago. You have an enemy, and it's probably your unmarried daughter and your divorced sister.

I do not know if Susan Rice is "out on her own" on this or it's "Democrat sponsored positioning". Probably equal parts of both; I have no doubt there's a very great deal of angst on the Left just from the first 25% of Trump's term, and the promise of a lot more of the same in the pipeline.

The Left is, and has always, been convinced that They Are The Right People To Lead because they're just so much smarter than us proles. Thing is, they have led. but only because everyone else has acquiesced to their motions.

I'm hoping there's some sanity on their side, because there's only so far we can be pushed, only so much of their crap we'll put up with. In my corner of the world I'm hearing noises about the Left pushing back - with violence - and I've cautioned some of them about that; "civilization" has a very thin veneer, and once that fragile veneer is broken through the surface below is a whole lot rougher than most people can imagine.

I very, very strongly recommend they not go there. Express concerns, offer opinions and alternatives, seek whatever level of balance is possible, but the laying on of threats is a large step too far.

And it is something which we will not forget.

@JohnTyler:It is unbelievable that the republicans still refer to the Dems as their “colleagues across the aisle.

It's Republicans that are holding up the SAVE act, and the Republican leadership is allowing them to do it.

At some point we need to face up to the fact that too many of these people only pretend to be on our side.

At the end of the day, Congress just wants to appropriate. Which is to spend our money with their friends. They just don't really care about much else. That's why so many laws are written to delegate to the executive branch. Congress just wants to spend money.

That's why the GOP is so "ineffective". Ineffective at doing what we want, very effective at doing what they want, which is get together with Dems and see to it that everybody's friends get paid. The GOP makes concessions so the Dems will let them keep the trough full.

They can act when they want to. They set aside the filibuster with majorities of 51 several times last year, for example to remove California's EV mandate. In this case, they don't want to. Remember all that stuff DOGE found that Congress wouldn't do anything about?

I lost all respect or Susan Rice in 1994, during the Rwanda genocide. She was in the National Security Council then and was instrumental in setting policy that refused to call the genocide by that name. That policy contributed to the large death toll in the country. It looks like she wants to bring that experience to America.

I worked with several members of D.C.'s elite Black community during those years and think of them as major power players in D.C. For her to make this statement tells me this is prospective policy at some level in the Democratic Party, and not an unimportant level. I find it frightening.
