Adams seems like a decent guy with good instincts. He just didn’t have the moxie to really stand up to the leftists in NYC.
Folks with very deep pockets are staying and/or building and investing in NYC ,

Yes and no. There was an article in yesterday's NY Post saying that JP Morgan Chase now has more employees in Texas than in NYC. My wife works at a medium-size financial institution that moved its HQ to Nashville some years ago, while downsizing their office space in NYC. Quite a few employees who could have stayed in NYC opted to relocate to Nashville.

It's true that companies will keep a presence in NYC, and young people without kids and the wealthy still flock to Manhattan and the nicer parts of Brooklyn, but bit by bit the exodus is underway already because of DeBlasio and Bragg, and it will continue under Mamdani.

I don't believe a majority of New Yorkers really want Mamdani, but his opposition generates no enthusiasm, so Mamdani will more than likely get the turnout and volunteers to win the vote, since he only needs 40% or less to win.

@JohnTyler:And if he bankrupts NYC , NYC will just wait until the demonkrats regain the Presidency to get bailed out.

This is very easy to say, much harder to do. Bankruptcy is not something that can be just be sat through until January 2027. Some sort of emergency power of the governor or the President would probably be used.

Your point about the really big businesses not thinking this means anything is well taken. It's the people who actually have skin in the game who should be presumed to know best. Doesn't mean they are infallible, of course, but a mayor is not a dictator. Supposing he believed himself to be Napoleon, he couldn't make himself Emperor or invade Italy. He may be a Communist but he cannot make NYC Communist.

So many of the people who have strong opinions have never and will never set foot in NYC. I've see the contrast between blog comment descriptions of Seattle and Portland and actual Seattle and Portland, for example, and I have no reason to think people who are not accurate about Seattle and Portland now are more accurate about NYC hypothetically.

I don't think Sliwa should drop out, especially not in favor of Cuomo--did we forget he killed people?

If New Yorkers are presented with full Commie, corrupt progressive sexual harasser short-of-Commie who literally killed their Nanas, and Sliwa, and a plurality picks full Commie, great. They had a real choice between real options and they chose. If they want a system that can and does deliver Commie then by God they should get Commie.

Experience keeps a dear school and fools will have no other. For the rest, there's U-Haul, though I prefer Penske to be honest.

Mamdani will be the next mayor of NYC; once in office he will make DeBlasio and Dinkins look like they were ultra-right-wing fanatics.

This will suit most of the residents of NYC and the NY City council just fine.
And if he bankrupts NYC , NYC will just wait until the demonkrats regain the Presidency to get bailed out.

I keep reading articles about how NYC's wealthy and big businesses will be driven out of NYC. Perhaps a few (some? a bunch?) wealthy individuals will leave, but the big investment banks and financial institutions will not.
And NYC takes in a massive amount of tax revenue from the financial firms domiciled in NYC.

JP Morgan Chase recently built a new, very large, headquarters building in NYC; approval has just been given for a hedge fund financed building that will be the tallest in midtown Manhattan, and another hedge fund has just leased more office space in Manhattan. True, I cite just three instances of investment in NYC, but these institutions would not have done so if they are considering getting out of Dodge.

The fact is that job growth RATE within the financial sector in NYC would be quite a bit higher, if not for financial firms opening up offices in Texas and Florida (which they are), but the RATE of job growth within the financial arena in NYC is still positive.

Lastly, just an anecdote; when you visit Manhattan you will see numerous , real tall construction cranes at work.
Folks with very deep pockets are staying and/or building and investing in NYC , notwithstanding Mamdani's mayoral debut or the talking heads declaring a mass exodus from NYC.

Frankly, I don't understand why these large financial institutions still decide to remain in NYC.

Selfy:

I don't know why you came to the conclusion that I prefer Cuomo or Adams to Sliwa. Got back and read what I wrote: "Current NY Mayor Eric Adams was actually my favorite Democrat of the three competing in the 2025 New York mayoral race, which I suppose isn’t saying much." My favorite Democrat of the three who were running: Mamdani, Cuomo, or Adams.

I think Mamdani is doing so well because the voters of NY have been moving further and further left and young Democrats (Mamdani's largest group of supporters) in particular have become more anti-Semitic and pro-socialist, and prefer youthful candidates.
