@ HC68: when it comes time for folks to discuss “the anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki strikes that ended World War II.” I hope there is some consideration of the view that those two bombs (being early in such bomb development) were no more devastating in their end result than prior city-wide fire bombing campaigns. Thus some people believe that they were an excuse that the Emperor used to save face vs. the real fears he and his command staff had about a pending invasion by the Soviets from the Northern islands. They surrendered to the Americans so they did not have to potentially surrender to the Soviets.

I expect we will see a spirited back and forth on this topic when the time is right, both here and/or on other blogs/sites.

I see Neo has a posting about the Trinity testing so I will head there next.

On an unrelated but relevant subject, today is the 80th anniversary of the Atomic Age.

The first atomic bomb test at Trinity, New Mexico occurred on July 16th, 1945.

Next month, of course, are the anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki stirkes that ended World War II.

Minimum ages for marriage in the US:

Huh. Not what I expected. I’ve been re-watching a TV series based the true story of the development of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit. In the 1970’s they are investigating the rape/murder of a young girl, and they mention that the minimum age in Georgia is 14.

Strangely, according to Wikipedia, California has no minimum age for marriage. Missouri has the lowest stated age at 15. In colonial America, the age was 12.

@Selfy:Not to excuse any illegalities, but in the USA’s past and in many countries today, girls marrying before the age of 18 is not so rare.

In the US right now, the age of consent and the age at which you can marry varies by jurisdiction, and not only that, can vary by the age or relationship of the two people involved. In my own state the age of consent can be as high as 21 or as low as 16. Only in 11 states is the minimum age actually 18.

I suppose to the committed salafi like al sharaa the druze come off as polytheists munafakim shirking the moslem obligations the alawites obvious were such in addition to their clan affiliation in quardaha of course Assad bad was just enough to fit on a post card but there were reasons for his support even among Christians which we are finding out the hard way

Dershowitz from the Sean Spicer interview in n March: “I know the names of the individuals. I know why they’re being suppressed. I know who’s suppressing them…But I’m bound by confidentiality from a judge and cases, and I can’t disclose what I know, but I, hand to God, I know. I know the names of people whose files are being suppressed in order to protect them, and that’s wrong.”

Andrew Ross Sorkin must have soiled his knickers hearing Langone’s positive comments about Trump.

Sorkin has always been a hardcore lefty and suffers a very severe case of Trump derangement syndrome (TDS).

Every time Sorkin opens his mouth you can expect the usual lefty, progressive drivel. . He doesn’t even pretend to be impartial when questioning any guest that even hints of a non-progressive viewpoint.
