Hmm…didn’t know that Omar Khayyam was a serious mathematician.

Anyway. That’s not a long list and I would note that all those heavy hitters were from the Islamic Golden Age — 8th to 13th centuries. That was a long time ago.

Sure, they made and make some contributions. However, Western science would have done fine without them.

Others may decide as others will.

@Kate:The only scientific innovation which Arabs developed (rather than merely transmitting) that I know of is Arabic numerals. I'm afraid this is an understandable misconception: they were transmitted from India by the Arabs. The Arabic contribution was to represent fractions to the right of the decimal point. They did innovate in math and science, it's just that's not mostly what they did. A list of their innovations would be long and tiresome.

Shirehome, I’m trying to remember that. In India, we had to use purified water, not tap water, and the same was true in Dubai, even in fancy hotels. I just don’t remember, but probably we used bottled water.
