That any Democrats can, with a straight face and appearance of authentic conviction, make claims that Republicans/conservatives can't read, don't have passports, are stupid, uneducated, etc etc etc surpasses by leagues the famed Pauline Kael quote about not understanding how Nixon won (she didn't know any of his voters).

The failure to do even basic research (the RedState blog doesn't read itself! -- to name just one) is indicative of the miserable state of the profession formerly known as journalism.

And there are clearly some educated conservatives, because the Democrats keep attacking the few in academia who are still employed.

PS t-- sometimes the educated conservatives fight back.

I can’t find the full clip where I heard that she also remarked in that rant that the term “ MAGA readers” was a contradiction in terms since it’s obvious MAGA supporters don’t read.

Here is where it originally came from: Jennifer Rubin& George Conway. @ ~17:50
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgK6JRBJGRI

X excerpts it: https://x.com/EricAbbenante/status/1873520253382136266
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin insinuates that MAGA voters are illiterate:

Jennifer Rubin: "Why would ABC , Disney, who has more money than God, settle with Donald Trump?"
George Conway: "I honestly don't know."
Rubin: "I have asked why would ABC [settle in the defamation case with Donald Trump]:
They are convinced that if they would just move a little bit to the right, all those MAGA readers out there - now you notice the contradiction there, MAGA readers - pick up the WaPo and they would have more readers. Yes, reader. There is nothing that the Washington Post could possibly do that would have those people take out a subscription."

'I can't believe the people I'm insulting me aren't supporting me' is a common theme these days.

neo:

I don't think they are going for clever.

In my Hollywood Death Watch I keep running into celebrities, producers and directors all reaching for the same language. For instance, "I couldn't be more proud" is a constant refrain for whatever woke sentiment they support. I also find it in the Washington Dem world.

IMO they are circling the wagons, using whatever ammunition is close at hand.

Unfortunately they don't have much ammunition available.

Yes, it's indeed a common quip in those circles - but so common that it can't be considered clever even by those misguided enough to believe it's true.

I wonder why Rubin would think her remark such a clever quip.

It's a trope in those circles.

For instance, at the Torino Film Festival Sharon Stone bashed Trump supporters, especially males, as uneducated and arrogant adolescents.

Yuck-yuck.

She also said that 80% of Americans don't have passports.

Untrue. 48% of Americans have valid passports.
