Will we actually see any other Democrats, such as Fetterman, move to the other side of the aisle as Gabbard did? Did her military experience/ exposure give her some insight the other more or less moderate Democrats don't have the courage to follow?

If the Vance, DeSantis, et al. train of Republican talent can retain primacy for the next 12 to 16 years, then the Democrats will lose even more opportunities for jobs and experience as agency heads, etc., and some of them may decide that is not a career ending situation they want to face. Thus they might jump ship. Then agin, I don't see more than a dozen doing so, if that.

(4) I stand with Senator John Fetterman on this issue.

https://notthebee.com/article/fetterman-slams-fellow-dems-for-voting-against-laken-riley-law--thats-the-reason-why-we-lost

<blockquote>[Senator]
It's really common sense ... we have hundreds of thousands of migrants here illegally that have been convicted of crimes ...

If you're here illegally and you're committing crimes and those things, I don't know why anybody thinks it's controversial that they all need to go ...

If we can't pull ... 7 out of 47 votes, that's the reason why we lost.
</blockquote>

The House vote was Republican Yea 216, Democrat Yea 48, Democrat Nay 159.

It's getting sad when a man who was almost brain-dead after a stroke has better moral and political sense than those representatives who voted no - maybe we should look at deporting them.

He is also quoted in the LI post:
<blockquote>
Laken Riley’s story is a tragic reminder of what’s at stake when our systems fail to protect people. No family should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to preventable violence. Immigration is what makes our country great. I support giving authorities the tools to prevent tragedies like this one while we work on comprehensive solutions to our broken system.</blockquote>

(2) York & Greenwald are correct, of course, and I've seen other pundits make the same observation, most of them as soon as Scarborough et al. began making pilgrimages to Mar-a-lago after the election. But, as Neo said, too many people take all of the media theater literally AND seriously.
If we had a genuine "misinformation filter," most of the Democrat media would be 90% redacted.

On a side note, I was interested to see that you linked the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, it being one of the few localities that didn't totally junk its German heritage during & after the World Wars.

We lived in San Antonio for 2 years a long time ago, and considered moving to NB just because it was such a fun place. I love SA also, and recommend it as a great vacation destination, but we probably did better raising our kids in a less flamboyant city.

Gabbard - Vance - DeSantis... All have military and political experience.

I've been fooled by many politicians before, but based on what I presently see of Tulsi Gabbard I can't imagine a more fitting woman to be America's first female President.

If Trump is successful this term it would be great if the Republicans could be wise and get the party to back a Gabbard bid. Maybe have Rand Paul and Ted Cruz run against her so she goes through a challenging primary, but have Vance and DeSantis stay out so she isn't weakened politically.

<i>"I fear a Vance/ DeSantis primary fight, where they will be forced by the Republican primary base to push them to right, and hurt in the general with Independents."</i> Telemachus

Regardless of how successful the Trump-Vance Presidency turns out to be, I think it unlikely that DeSantis would be able to successfully challenge Vance in the 2028 primary. Nor did Trump's rightward tilt hurt him in the general with Independents. That said, a 2028 Vance-DeSantis ticket would have broad appeal both on the right and with Independents.
