It’s not true that the perpetrator “previously unknown to security services”.
Saudi Arabia warned at least three times about he dangers posed by this man (I have no details), and also asked for his extradition back to Arabia, which was denied fearing for his safety.

The perpetrator is a doctor of psychology. Seems his version of “anti-Islam” is pretty twisted. Angered, he said in his online posts, by German “mistreatment” of Saudi refugees, he committed a very jihadi act.

European newspapers are in fact describing the perpetrador as an anti-islamic activist. Moreover, he is being pointed out as a far-right militant with connection to AfD. Some go on to say he is a fan of Elon Musk. Readers’ comments in the respective sites seem to show that this narrative largely exceeds the plot that people are ready to swallow.
