Marlene and Cicero, great comments. I like the phrase that Bruce Thornton used to describe Islam: an ideology devoted to their chauvinistic supremacy. I see that Neo has a new posting about the definition of religion so I will wait to read that before going in that direction.

But I have long wondered if our “WOT” would have taken a more rational rationale if GW Bush [and the Bushes in general] had not been so friendly with the Saudis and had a less forgiving Christian outlook about the “religion of peace”.

I had hoped that Dr. M. Zudhi Jasser would have more success when I learned about him years ago. He’s a medical doctor American Navy veteran who became famous (– I think) for pushing to reform Islam. It’s more complicated than that, but if interested, look him up.
He’s written books & founded an organization:
“Jasser, a medical doctor, Navy veteran, and founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy l”
Obama shunned him. No surprise to me.

My long-held belief!! We & other nations are fools to allow a theocratic, inherently violent cult to be shielded by our own laws & policies protecting “religion”. A sensible definition of religion would help, which may not be easy but would be wise to have.
It’s appalling what we allow to profit off our loose “anything goes” legal definition, currently.
