I wish I could link up with Philadelphia cat lady but you have to pay for a subscription to be able to comment at the Chronicles.
I live in Philadelphia and have since my late twenties. Found a quiet out of the way neighborhood near the city borders and it’s really nice here; she should move.
I bet I could guess where she lives. There’s no talking to those progressives and they keep voting for our soft on crime Soros-backed progressive DA Larry Krasner.

I’m a native born Californian and a former Democrat. I voted for Jerry Brown and Leon Panetta back in the day, but much to my amazement the hippies run everything now. The “question authority” hippies who are now the “authority”. I now quip that California is North Korea with better weather. Will Democrats ever hit rock bottom here, do a 12-step program and renounce their tyranny? Fat chance.

She’s not over the hump yet, because she still thinks there’s a “they” who can fix things. Her comments about minimum wage show this. But she is on the way, because she does see the consequences, now she just has to make it back to the root causes.

As a lifelong resident of LA, I can’t believe some of the crap my fellow Californians vote for – and put up with from the people for whom they voted. It used to be said that California leads the way, but we’ve lost our way and maybe we can follow others to find it back.

I think mkent has it right. The ‘warning’ provides an excuse to justify the claim that the Republicans failed and allows voting for the good people again in 2 years (or 4).

My aunt and uncle, as teenagers, left Oklahoma for LA circa 1939-40. My aunt left with her parents and sister. My uncle then followed his girlfriend and future wife. Like the song says, they found California a Garden of Eden. Fast forward 8+ decades. My cousins see the mess that Democrats have made of California. They are Republicans with a capital R.

My brother’s children all live in the Bay Area. All Democrats. On one trip to the Bay Area, my brother took a photo of a rural yard full of Trump signs, which his family found hilarious.

Is Trump’s agenda supposed to turn things around in his single 4 year term what was decades in the making? How much time will Americans allow before they claim his policies are a failure if there are a couple of steps back before the fruits of deregulation start to be felt. Maybe I’m wrong on this, but I would imagine the turnaround could take time. And who knows what kind of resistance there will be.

And I think it was Musk who said there will likely be some pain involved in the DOGE process.

Shouldn’t Trump preface his agenda with some kind of appeal for patience?
