Even If Trump Wins, There's a Long Road Ahead
Buckle up! Roger Simon Oct 25, 2024

Donald Trump likes to tell us he can solve America’s demonstrable problems lickety-split.

There are many things he can do quickly, in days if not hours, by executive order. These include shutting the open border, to a great extent anyway, reinstating, even increasing, sanctions on Iran to cut the money flow enabling the mullahs and allowing domestic oil producers to drill, baby, drill. This would restrain Russian adventurism.

We can name several other improvements that could be done relatively easily, like ticketing the Department of Education for extinction and changing the comically “woke” leadership in our military. We can also get rid of the iffy voting machines and go back to paper ballots with one Election Day.

It’s clear that Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard will have important roles. (Is Tulsi the first woman president?)

Others will return who have served well in the past with names like Kudlow and Grenell. The list is not short.

But looming over all this is another reality.

Kamala Harris, no matter what, will have received tens of millions of votes, perhaps won the popular vote.
[AF: that she did NOT is a massive blessing that might mitigate some of Roger's pessimism]

These people all supported someone who is unable to answer the most predictable softball questions in anything resembling coherent English.
...
[lsome examples, with which we are all too familiar]
...
And yet millions and millions support her. Some of this is Trump Derangement Syndrome, some of it is being a Democrat by inheritance (everyone in my family always was) or habit (not all that different from smoking), some of it is from fear of losing a government job.

But some are drunk on tired ideology. We find this all over our schools, media and entertainment.

These people will make it Hell for their fellow Americans between Nov 5 and the inauguration on Jan 20. It could even lead to violence.

That interregnum won’t be the end of it either. This ideological infection is too entrenched. It has been going on a long time, since the days of Woodrow Wilson with a warp speed bump from the election of Barack Obama.

It didn’t all begin with “woke.” That’s only a recent manifestation of a titanic struggle for what used to be called our minds and hearts.

Deprogramming all this will take time and must perforce be piecemeal. We need patience, a lot of it.

Among other things we are going to have to recover is the English language. This is more important than it seems. It’s not just pronouns. Much of what was once standard vocabulary has been politicized to manipulate the public.
...
And there’s our educational system. We might as well call it an indoctrination system (with exceptions, obviously). This is the root problem of all and won’t be solved simply by closing the Department of Education in Washington. That’s only a start but it would be illusory to think it would amount to much without significant effort by many of us on the ground from kindergarten through graduate school.

But arguably more than anything, it will be worth it.

So pray for Trump to win—I am— and vote for him, of course, if you haven’t already, but don’t think for a minute, if he does win, that’s the end. It’s only the beginning.

@ Snow > “Justice without Revenge”

Roger Simon's merciful counsel for punishing the myriad malefactors of the Swamp/Deep State/Treasonous Junta should certainly be considered, although I think jail-time for the actual and very serious crimes committed is Justice, not Revenge.

However, he is correct that putting the clearly senile Biden in the dock is probably a political no-go. All the rest of them should lie in the beds they made, even if they are in the Grey Bar Hotel -- and preferably not Club Fed, but the same kind they put Steve Bannon in for a crime NO Democrat has ever been prosecuted for.

Examining in detail the 2020 election, which was NOT done despite the posturing of the Left and some sincerity on the Right, really must happen, and steps taken to eliminate the worst abuses.

A lot of the "debunking" that defends that notoriously "free and fair" election hinges on technicalities and definitions.
So maybe the election wasn't "stolen" in the same way a burglar breaks in your door and makes off with your money and computers. (I posit that without believing it; some of the numerical anomalies have NOT been cleared up satisfactorily, but YMMV.)

The kind of stealing the Democrats did in 2020 is more like the way they redefined shop-lifting as a non-punishable peccadillo: but, we all know it's stealing.
It's like the squatters' and renters' rights statues that make if possible for people to take over someone else's property without legal recourse by the true owner.
We all know that's stealing.
It's like printing someone else's words as your own, without acknowledging them.
Noting tangible changed hands, but we all know that's stealing.

The Democrats called their actions "fortifying" the election, and some were legal, and some had a patina of legality, but we all know it was stealing.

The chart Roger included is mind-boggling. (The left axis is millions of votes).
I knew the numbers, intellectually, but seeing them in comparison really hits hard.

Roughly: (without looking up the exact numbers)
2012 D 66 R 61
2016 D 66+ R 63+
2020 D 81 R 74
2024 D 67 R 72

As Roger said, "How do we reconcile that Donald Trump received more votes in 2020 than he did in 2024 when he won the popular vote, yet he lost in 2020 to a Joe Biden that somehow got tens of millions more votes back then than Kamala Harris did now? [AF:or Obama in 2012 & Hillary in 2016] Where did those votes come from? The population doesn’t exist. You don’t have to be in Denmark to know that something is rotten."

Just watched a guy on Morning Joe ask what he thinks is a damaging question, damaging to Republicans. He smugly asked "How come Kamala got 14 million fewer votes than Joe Biden got last time?!"

He's gonna regret asking that, unless they successfully "disappear" it.

You see, EVERY presidential candidate in this century got millions of votes less than Biden. Every one: Dem or Republican, winner or loser.

So the question is not why Kamala did... it's why they ALL did!!

I doubt the Democrats will be nominating her again.
Damn shame that. For 2028 the Democrats will have an actual national primary and we know how Ms. Harris does in those. Still the Democrats are pretty fricking insane and perhaps in some alternate universe we'd have Vance vs Harris 2028. Wouldn't that be entertaining and glorious :-)

@Bauxite:you respond to his assent to power by pulling the Emily Litella routine . . .

That gives away the game.

Not to people who don't remember what happened two weeks ago. They are going to shift 180 degrees on this topic, on packing the Supreme Court, on abolishing the filibuster, etc without missing a beat, and no one will notice.

...[A]t just this moment it had been announced that Oceania was not after all at war with Eurasia. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Eurasia was an ally.

There was, of course, no admission that any change had taken place. Merely it became known, with extreme suddenness and everywhere at once, that Eastasia and not Eurasia was the enemy....

The next moment there was a tremendous commotion. The banners and posters with which the square was decorated were all wrong! Quite half of them had the wrong faces on them. It was sabotage! The agents of Goldstein had been at work! There was a riotous interlude while posters were ripped from the walls, banners torn to shreds and trampled underfoot. The Spies performed prodigies of activity in clambering over the rooftops and cutting the streamers that fluttered from the chimneys. But within two or three minutes it was all over. The orator, still gripping the neck of the microphone, his shoulders hunched forward, his free hand clawing at the air, had gone straight on with his speech. One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd. The Hate continued exactly as before, except that the target had been changed.

The thing that impressed Winston in looking back was that the speaker had switched from one line to the other actually in midsentence, not only without a pause, but without even breaking the syntax.
