I think Obama stepped in it this time.

It’s one thing to lecture white males for sexism. But for a rich old black guy to lecture young black males, who’ve borne the brunt of the bad Biden economy, is another thing.

I doubt Obama changed any opinions, but I will bet he hardened some pro-Trump ones.

Obviously, neither group should be shot.

But there’s also an implication from him that a lot of people refusing to vote for Harris are doing it on those grounds, and that if you had the exact same person as a man they’d be voting for that person. I doubt there are very many people objecting to Harris on those grounds only.

And even someone who doesn’t want any woman to be president is not usually saying that because of women’s lack of smarts. Usually it’s because of some idea that women can’t be tough enough, or are too emotional, or something of that nature.

(This is quite aside from whether or not he was being serious.)

That was funny, but not surprising.
The ad –which was very cringe and kind of in the “uncanny valley” — did have the feel of an advertisement for some new medical product, but I don’t really expect any political ads to feature real people anymore.

Maybe Governor Newsom would add a paragraph to his anti-parody law that requires people purporting to be “concerned voters” actually have to be what they say they are.
Or there has to be a disclaimer “paid actors” prominently on the ad.

It seems to me that the Democrats / leftists often get away with the excuse that they were “just joking” whenever they say any hurtful, mean, hateful, incitatory*, or vicious things and get called out.
But Republicans / conservatives who ARE actually joking get fact-checked by Snopes or fired.

*I couldn’t get rid of the spell-checker’s red line, for what looks like a perfectly understandable adjective (as in the lies that President Trump’s remarks on J6 were incitatory).
Looks like I am in rare company: “OED’s only evidence for incitatory is from 1610, in the writing of John Donne, poet and Church of England clergyman.”

The video on X has more than 3.5 million views. It was first posted Wednesday morning by Ned Ryun, the son of former Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun of Kansas.

Which prompts several comments.

1) Jim Ryun was a US Congressman for 10 years, but he had been in the spotlight decades before. He was the first high schooler to run the mile in under 4 minutes, and won a silver medal at the 1968 Olympics.

2) This shows the influence of X (x-twitter 🙂 ) on our political discourse. It’s a good bet that if Elon Musk hadn’t bought Twitter, Ned Ryun’s tweet would have been suppressed by the Twitter censors.

(My view on this “joke” is that the speaker was “dead” serious, but wanted to mask his seriousness in a “joke.”)

Any basis for that beyond opinion?

Agreed. If the Harris/Walz ticket was doing well, the Dems wouldn’t be hauling out Golden Oldies to stump for Harris.

I’ve read that the Dem internal polling shows Harris losing in the Electoral College, so the basement campaign wasn’t working and they had to send Harris and Walz out for interviews … with poor results.

Whatever else one might say, Obama and Clinton were excellent politicians and far superior to Harris and Walz.
