Niketas Choniates,
Re:
"@Geoffery:In the Philippines during the Spanish/American war, rendering fanatical jihadists unclean through being buried with dead pigs proved highly effective."

"That’s a myth, sorry to say.

Yes, that's what the left's disinformationists claim. But not according to Black Jack Pershing, who was both there and in a position to know.
Writing in the 1920s and 1930s, in a memoir published only in 2013, he recalled that juramentado attacks had been “materially reduced in number” by the burial of attackers’ bodies with dead pigs, “a practice that the Mohamedans held in abhorrence.” https://apjjf.org/2017/20/kramer

Your claim that, "Muslims do not believe that anyone is kept out of Paradise on this basis: they reject that God would allow any non-believer that kind of power over a Muslim." is invalidated by both the Qur'an and the nature of the literalism of fundamentalist jihadists.

So, they may say that (Taqiyyah) but Allah has unequivocally declared it to be so in the Qur'an. Nothing about it not applying if the agent is a non-Muslim. No 'get-out-of-jail-card with Allah. He's one harsh MF...
Since devout fundamentalist jihadists take the Qur'an literally, they have no basis for asserting that contact with part of a pig is voided if a non-Muslim is the agent of that contact. Allah, the all-knowing would have covered that 'loophole' since he's infallible...right?

@Michael K:St Mark’s remains were smuggled out of Muslim territory to Venice under a layer of pig fat.

That's the legend, though we don't know if it's true or what the Muslim side of the story was. Supposedly it deterred them from searching too carefully. But there's a big difference between not wanting to touch pig fat because it's ritually unclean, and believing that being buried with a pig keeps you out of Paradise.

The other Abrahamic faith that has an issue with pork has also been subjected to this sort of thing:

Diodorus, a first-century BCE Greek historian, explains that Antiochus, the villain of the Hanukkah story, sprinkled pig’s blood on the Temple’s altar, poured pig gravy on the Temple’s Torah scrolls and forced the High Priest to eat pork. Diodorus explains that Antiochus assumed if he could break Jewish habits regarding pork, he could break Judaism.

@Geoffrey:The fall of Constantinople after centuries of Muslim attacks demonstrates the ultimate outcome when consistently fighting defensively.

A subject very close to my heart! The fall of Constantinople was what we'd call "overdetermined", not a result of consistently fighting defensively.

Constantinople was first besieged by Muslims in the 8th century, but it wasn't until 400 years later that Constantinople's mortal wound was delivered in 1204 by Christian Crusaders, led by the Doge of Venice to ensure that the Venetians were compensated for transport; that they hung on until 1453 after that is what is surprising. They had little left to fight with after the Catholic Christians dismembered their empire.

You can still see quite a lot of the looted treasures of Constantinople in Venice today, euphemistically described in the museums there as having "arrived in Venice", and a painting by Tintoretto depicting the Venetian-led conquest hangs in the Palazzo Ducale. The missing foot of the Four Tetrarchs was recently rediscovered in Istanbul.*

To be perfectly fair, many of those treasures had been looted from somewhere else, in many cases by the Emperor Constantin, and in the 19th century Napoleon relooted some of it. Some of which was brought back to Venice, including the famous bronze horses, which are so old no one knows how old they are. (They wear collars because the Venetians had to cut the heads off to load them in their ships, the collars were added to hide the cuts.)

*Not Constantinople. Been a long time gone, Constantinople.

@Geoffery:In the Philippines during the Spanish/American war, rendering fanatical jihadists unclean through being buried with dead pigs proved highly effective.

That's a myth, sorry to say. Though people have done this, including some Americans, it doesn't work. Muslims do not believe that anyone is kept out of Paradise on this basis: they reject that God would allow any non-believer that kind of power over a Muslim.

Certainly they don't appreciate having corpses defiled any more than non-Muslims do, but they don't think it affects Muslims in the afterlife any more than the other Abrahamic faiths do. You can certainly make them madder, but it's not much of a deterrent.
