A couple of hours after my wife and I were discussing our household and personal electronics potentially spying on us, and an hour or less after I wrote the comment about this above, what do I get but an E-mail touting an article from my VPN provider asking the question, are your electronics spying on you?

Having read how many of our new appliances have an Internet connection and can, thus, potentially listen in to us in our homes, and report to who knows where, I have avoided buying things like new refrigerators (trying to reestablish my router’s connection to the Internet the other day, I noticed one of the other possible connection points is a nearby neighbor’s refrigerator) and coffee makers with this capability.

No Amazon products which listen in, SIRI is supposedly turned off on my I Phone, and my security cameras supposedly don’t have the ability to listen in, but are, nonetheless, pointing outward. However, I do have and routinely wear an Apple watch.

A relative moved out to a western state, and we were talking to her on the phone about her new house and, later, my wife and I were talking about the real estate situation in that state–a state which we had never talked about before.

Well, lo and behold, yesterday, out of the blue, my Youtube feed featured a lot of ads for real estate in the state that this relative had moved to.

My wife also noted that, a couple of days ago, she was talking–outside–to a neighbor about the subject of Humming birds and, lo and behold, the next day she got an ad from an organization dealing with gardens and humming birds that she hadn’t heard from in several years.

Quite a couple of coincidences, huh?

So either some device or other is listening in on our conversations and/or Big Brother has developed such an accurate profile of us that it can very accurately predict the subjects we will be interested in, and currently discussing.
