@Boobah:

Yep. It's not like you can built an ornithopter with even the toughness of the balsa wood / paper planes of the 60s. The first ones were this incredibly light, weak plastic film. They would make the frame out of like 1/16" spars, sink it in water, put one drop of the solution to spread like oil on water then lift the frame up through the film. They'd even cut a rubber band so it wasn't double and twist one 'thread'. Wild stuff. I tried. After the eight or ninth failed wing I gave up. I'll have to look some current hobby ones up.

As always, it's the power unit that kills things.

RE: UFOs –Are they Demonic?

What does it mean for something to be a “demon,” to be “demonic”?

One modern day definition of a demon is “an evil spiritual being,” but in ancient Greek religion a “daimon” was a supernatural power, and the word “daimon” was used interchangeably by Homer with “theos,” the word for a spirit or god. Came Christianity and the Greek daimons were transformed into evil “demons.”

Lou Elizondo has said that some of the opposition he faced within DOD to studying UFOs was from people (presumably Christians) who considered UFOs to be demonic, and wanted to have nothing to do with them; to “let sleeping dogs lie.”

Jacques Valle's view of UFOs is that they are directed by some form of non human intelligence (NHI), an intelligence which can appear/make humans perceive it, in any number of forms; evidence that Reality is far larger and more complex than most of us want to admit.

Vallee believes that UFOs are not only physical entities, but also have a psychic component.

This, perhaps the reason why it is rumored that progress in reverse engineering UFOs has been very, very slow, and with minimal results.

It is now admitted that current day scientists have no idea what human consciousness actually is, but some are coming around to the idea that human consciousness is not just confined to the physical brain but extends outward into the environment and may be able to, in some way, effect it. Moreover, that human consciousness operates in the realm of quantum physics.

In esoteric teachings there is the idea that if enough people concentrate strongly enough on an image or idea they can bring a mental entity—an “Egregore” into being; this non-physical entity is a force which can have an impact on human life.

This is, after all, the same concept as that behind the visualization and concentration techniques which are employed by Tibetan Buddhists, by Hindus, and the Jesuits in their religious training.

What are all the images, especially in Catholic churches, and Tibetan temples and monastaries but both teaching tools, and also focal points to concentrate your mental energies on.

Perhaps when far more people and far more devotedly believed in their religions, their concentrated regard/worship/prayers brought into being non-material entities, energies which could, indeed, have influence—good and bad—on humanity.

Much as some people would like it not to be true, what is true is that there is real Evil in the world, and perhaps—especially in former times, when it's literal presence was taught and believed--Evil was, and perhaps still is, personified in an actual presence which effects humankind, and which we call the Devil; perhaps it is the dark side of human nature, or Jung's “collective shadow.”

Ephesians 6:12 King James Version

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

But aren't we all, and increasingly, dealing daily with, and sometimes fighting against elements of such “powers and principalities.”

What if UFOs are just one more of these powers and principalities, neither necessarily either good or bad? *

Re: ornithopters in real life

Turns out that, yes, it's possible, but not very practical. At least not yet. The longest manned ornithopter flight is around a half minute, and they usually seem to get towed into the air or use a rocket boost.

The first working ornithopters were rubber-band powered in the late 19th century; a remote controlled, engine-powered ornithopter was flown in 1961. Today there is, of course, a hobbyist market alongside radio-controlled planes and other drones, and on the practical side there's some made to look like raptors to chase birds away from airports.

So, could one be built? Almost certainly. And if you could, they'd have the flexibility of helicopters, only less inefficient. Mind, much of the technology you'd want for practical ornithopters would also improve other aircraft.
