huxley, since she’s growing up in a southern location, Arkansas, she may very well go by “Joan.” Using middle names is very common in the South.

What she won’t be called is “Biden,” and considering the noxious reputation of that name, perhaps that is to her advantage.

John Varley wrote a series of science-fiction stories within a future timeline in which (among other things) humanity had used genetic technology so humans could morph themselves into practically anything.

One such human became an entity which could survive within the rings of Saturn. Later, due to a plot crisis, it had to subdivide itself into five child entities; Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.

Every time I hear of Biden’s grand-daughter I think of John Varley.

How does one choose to name a girl “Navy”? Frank Zappa named his daughter “Moon Unit,” but he was an out-there rock star.
