@Oldflyer: I just don’t know what McCarthy can do to become acceptable to some people.

In my case, he could have chosen not to shank his own party on the debt ceiling "deal". That "deal" had more House Dems vote yes than Republicans, and more Republicans voted no than Democrats did.

All he had to do was nothing for total victory. Ergo, he did not want the victory. He wanted to see the cronies get paid. Mission accomplished.

I cannot imagine another political base that derides every leader in the same the way as Republicans

Some of us are tired of being played for chumps, and some of us are apparently content to continue to be played. Some of us think it is high time that real effective opposition uses the power it has to effect real change instead of always making excuses for why they shouldn't even try.

The Dems knew they couldn't get impeachment through the Senate, didn't stop them... the Dems know they have to deliver for their base, and the Republicans know they don't have to.

As much as I would like to see Biden impeached, and convicted, I know it is impossible. I believe the best course at the moment is to do every thing possible to limit how much damage he can do; but otherwise stay out of his way and let him implode. That is one thing he is doing well.
If the Democrats want to run him in 24, then so much better. I have a low opinion of the American electorate but I do not yet, emphasis on yet, believe that a majority are blithering idiots. (I know that is in poor taste, but I am retro and in my day that was not an uncommon epithet.)

On another subject, I just don't know what McCarthy can do to become acceptable to some people. I cannot imagine another political base that derides every leader in the same the way as Republicans (or is RINO a more description?); exempting Reagan of course.

"...Biden is a spent force politically..."

Except that Biden is NOT "Biden" (as you imply when you say "the real operators").

...The REAL problem being that if Biden is on the ballot---as he most likely will be, chortling and grinning his SH**-FACED grin while slandering and sliming half the country and babbling about UNITY---AND IF the election laws and the SUPERVISION of those elections will NOT be fundamentally changed by November 2024, then Biden---i.e., "BIDEN"---"wins" "again".

I'm against impeaching Biden now as well. Three words: President Kamela Harris.

Start lower. Garland and Majorkas are ripe. They've both committed more than one impeachable offences. The real problem is getting rid of Harris first. There's no obvious criminal behavior (now) and it's hard to argue incompetence when there's no actual vice-presidential duties to be competent at. (And, fie on the dangling participle rule.)

Of course most Republicans won't impeach Biden for his family business deals:

a) He's a long-time Washington insider,
b) Kevin McCarthy is only interested in the theater of opposition,
c) Too many Congressmen and Senators also have done what Biden has done.

The talk of expunging the Trump impeachments is just to toss the Republican base a bone. Even if it were done it changes nothing and inconveniences no one, and it's as convincing as the new Bud Light campaigns.

Red State posted a couple of relevant articles.

I think Duke is right about the impeachment, and the use of media by the GOP, which desperately needs to up its game in that department.

https://redstate.com/tladuke/2023/06/26/lets-slow-the-roll-on-impeachment-of-anyone-before-the-gop-does-this-first-n767378

More on the CNN "exclusive" -- IMO, no provenance, no credibility.
And if it was leaked by Smith, then it's time to close down the DOJ from top to bottom.

Certainly looks like that's what Biden said.
Whether that is what he meant, or if he even knew what he was talking about, is debatable.
