<i>"It’s not the Loch Ness Monster, but it’s bigger than a goldfish."</i>

MollyB:

I'll remember that one!

I like a good conspiracy theory, but "Vigilante Citizen" often exceeds my suspension of disbelief.

Nonetheless there's something there. For instance, each month VC focuses on the latest entertainment/fashion images featuring people with one eye closed/blocked/covered so the individual appears one-eyed.

The Egyptian "Eye of Horus"?

Even Dolly Parton has gotten the one-eye treatment:

<i>The issue of gender affirmation appears to be starkly divided between red and blue.</i>

My blue friends insist vehemently that the red side is attacking strawmen on many subjects, but especially with regard to CRT and transgender activism.

I am willing to concede that the common run of Democrat voters do not support either racial preferences that take from one ethnicity to give to another, or transing the children, as Ben Shapiro puts it. But the problems are that the blue forces that do support and advocate for these things are in the ascendant, that the tactic of crying "Racism!" and "Whatever-phobia!" to choke off debate (not just cut it off, but choke it off) has become absolutely mainstream, and that that common run of Democrat voters either don't pay attention to these trends or will not stand against them.

Why should they? Even if they are aware of this California bill, think it's a terrible idea, and believe that most people will agree with them, why should any Democrat voter speak up about it when they know that someone on the right will do that dirty work and bear the brunt of public denigration for it?

It's like when one party or the other in Congress really agrees with the other party on some topic but knows that to say so will cost them votes, so they recruit a Manchin to vote for the other side to make sure the bill fails. I imagine that's how normal California Democrats see this transing of children thing. They don't have to stick their necks out; the result will be the same - the bill will fail because all the Republicans and a few of the Democrats in public office will defeat it. Or, in an initiative, all the Republican voters and enough of the Democrat voters - including themselves if they're confident the balloting will remain secret - will vote to defeat it.

Which is great, until it doesn't work. See also Hitler, with apologies for Godwining up the thread.

I still think there will come a time when this tranny thing will collapse into a blizzard of medical malpractice suits the way recovered memories did. Recovered memories was driven by money as insurance companies stopped paying for it once Gary Ramona won his lawsuit. It got started about the time that medical insurance cut back on payment for psychology. By the time of the lawsuit, the national psychology meetings included "workshops" on "how to recover memories." Obamacare and Medicare have cut back on surgical payments. I retired from Surgery 30 years ago so I am not up to date but it was starting then . This is a cash cow for unscrupulous docs.

This Pride stuff is a religion. If we can't figure out how to treat it as one, it's going to destroy our society by undermining its basic premises.

It would never be permissible to put a cross in a place of honor between two American flags on government property, let alone on the White House. It would never be permissible to consider a profession of Christian faith over other creeds as a plus factor for child custody. It would never be permissible for any other religious sect to sterilize and grotesquely mutiliate children on the basis of an unfalisfiable metaphysical belief.

In a free society, those things should not be permissible! But they are for Pride and Woke, or whatever we're allowed to call it.* And that's a big part of what is tearing the country apart.

(The name game has been a boon for the Woke Pridesters or Proud Wokesters or whatever. They change their name every year or so. Then they loudly insist that continuing to use the name that they previously called themselves is bigotry and claim that this, somehow, proves that they don't actually exist and are just being imagined by their political opponents.

That strategy is very effective politically. There's only so much political oxygen out there, and the left sucks up a considerable amount of it with dumb arguments over whether they actually have a name. But I actually think that their behavior is more interesting as a religious matter. In many religious traditions, knowing the name of someone (or something) implies power over that person or thing, at least because once you know the name of something, you can speak of it. The left, in a profounding religious manner, is trying to deny its opponents the power to speak its name.)
