Remember, Elon Musk wants to turn Twitter into something a lot more than it is now, and that surely includes video.

Cable TV prices are so much higher now than pure-Internet prices from the same carriers that a lot of people have been cord-cutting (dumb phrase) and going with Roku or some such plus a plan from Sling or similar to get the programming they want. The more financially-stretched an individual is, the more attractive this approach is going to be. I don't know what % of Tucker's audience has already 'cord cut', but I wouldn't be surprise if it's somewhere around 50%.

I still contend that Tucker's current use of Twitter may be more of a negotiation tactic* than an end goal; Twitter, however, is a great, natural place for 24/7 news. For quite a few years now we have seen amazing, breaking news coverage on Twitter. Every human with a cell phone and a data plan is a potential, on the scene reporter. Earthquakes, coups, hurricanes, fires, arrests, attempted arrests, protests... No news agency, no matter how deep their pockets, can have enough journalists in the field to match Twitter's number of sources and consumers.

*As has been noted elsewhere, Tucker threatening to go daily on Twitter is likely outside of any non-compete he has in his current FoxNews contract. In fact, his FoxNews contract likely encourages use of "social media" since that would have drawn people to his FoxNews show. News organizations have pushed their staff to use social media as free advertising.

So, this is a great poker bluff by Tucker and his attorneys. It may also be true, but, as I wrote, until there is a final settlement between Carlson and FoxNews every action on both sides must be considered a negotiation tactic.

Also, if Carlson does do a Twitter show I would guess Rumble and/or several other social media companies will contract with him to duplicate the coverage.

I doubt that Carlson's new platform will be reaching anywhere near the audience he had at Fox. As someone posted upthread, his audience is more TV oriented than Twitter.

A perfect fit!
The way it works is that the video is right on twitter. You don't have to follow a link. That's part of the attraction -- you don't have to leave the platform. Convenient for twitter users, and a good way to build the platform. Musk is adding new features to support the new business model as fast as he can.
Cable TV is dying.

I had the same perspective as Mike Cernovich, in the tweet Barry Meislin linked to at 7:21am.

I think it's likely Tucker and some of his staff will start posting daily video to Twitter, but this may not be Tucker's ultimate, next move. He is in negotiations with FoxNews to get released from his contract and/or have FoxNews give him some compensation. I know there are reports that Tucker is willing to walk away from the $20 million/year FoxNews reportedly owes him through January, 2025, but those are reports.

Tucker holds most of the cards in this negotiation but FoxNews has lawyers and deep pockets (at least for now). One has to look at everything either side does right now through the perspective of a poker game with both sides willing to bluff to convince the other to fold.
