Argerich is great, but Beato’s amazement suggests he’s not that knowledgeable about classical musicians. What he says about Argerich is true of many great musicians. I saw Artur Rubinstein perform a 2-hour recital when he was 89. Horowitz performed well into his 80s.

Also, about Argerich, unless I missed it, he didn’t mention that she’s had serious health issues, including cancer.

I love these high-functioning oldster stories. The old conventional wisdom was that you were born with 100 billion brain cells, give or take, but it was all downhill after you reached adulthood.

Then, they discovered neurogenesis — regenerating new brain cells! I did a big fist-pump when I read that. Here’s a popsci commercial link nonetheless with good info.

Rick Beato was surprised that none of the big names in rock or jazz he talked to had heard of Argerich. I haven’t either, though that’s a low bar. My knowledge of classical is checkered.

But still, not to know the greatest pianist of the past 60 years or perhaps of all time is a bit weird. I certainly know Horowitz and Gould and they are somewhere on that list.

Beato says she mostly performs in Europe, so that may be the rub.

Anyway, a great find. Clearly Argerich has aged richly! That Scarlatti excerpt @ 8:15 was unearthly.

As Kate indicates, this is very bad news for children: (Pharma/Regulator Revolving Door) CDC Panel Unanimously Votes to Add Covid-19 Shots to Childhood Vaccines Schedule Imagine having school age children subject to this mandate. It's a nightmare. Of course it was unanimous. On the upside, that potentially makes the cleaning job simpler for a future reformist administration.
