Sadly, I still prefer Cuomo to plenty of other potential Democratic nominees. He’d be doing a much better job than Joe Schmoe right now.

More than one of the answers is plausible. I initially assumed that he was warning against backlash. But, given his devious mind, and stunted moral character, it is impossible to state too emphatically what motivated him.

If there is not a significant backlash, the country is even farther gone than I realized.
