Not that Israel would not offer to assist in other cases—they have and they will continue to do so—and in several different countries, as well (e.g., Turkey—well, once upon a time—and Haiti, speaking of which the number of Jews in Haiti is not all that significant—unless some on this blog know more about this than I do, which is entirely possible…). I’m just saying that this Miami incident happens to be a special case…

The more data you have on building collapse debris, the better your models of how structures come down. They help people — which is good for the people concerned. They get free data — which is good for them, good for reducing Israeli civilian casualties… and perhaps less good for Muhammed bin Katyusha Aimer and his merry men doing a debrief in the basement when just their corner of it falls on their head. I’ll bet it also doesn’t hurt to be making friendly contact with divers foreigners in overseas buildings and works departments who collect and curate building and utilities plans, too. Never know when you might need to pull on a string or phone a man who knows a man.

Contrary to propaganda, Plucky Little Israel doesn’t suffer building collapses from missile strikes every day of the week. They’re quite rare — because Real Israel 2021 Edition is the thousand pound techno gorilla and does most of the collapsing in the neighbourhood. But you need to train your Civil Defense teams to handle stuff they don’t see on a regular basis just in case. It’s only prudent. So send them off here and there and gain some good will while you’re doing it.

Imagine Russia or China just sent a bunch of specialists to dig a bunch of people out of a collapsed building while doing all kinds of tricky stuff with laptops and tech gear in the rubble and then extrapolate the thinking process. You’d thank them politely, say nice grateful things, present them with a commemorative plaque, take a bunch of happy group photos, and bug and surveill the hell out of them. Just as you should do with help from the Promised Land of Jonathan Pollard. Or. Any. Other. Country.
