@ Art Deco – in re Somalia, I’m not sure what “modern army” bob is referring to, but Wikipedia says the warring Somalian factions forced a withdrawal of UN peacekeepers after a short time in country: “UN military observers [arrived] in July 1992, followed by larger peacekeeping forces…The UN withdrew in 1995, having incurred large casualties and the UN-created police force collapsed.”

This seems to line up with what I’ve read, but I make no claims about it’s veracity.

I agree he blew the campaign. But, any candidate against The (Actual) First Black President would be at a great disadvantage. We all know that complaints about Obama’s policies, and character, always and immediately elicited cries of “Racism!!” – regardless of any intrinsic merit.

However, given the allegations being made about Ballots for Biden having no marks for the Democrat candidates for other offices, can we really dismiss the idea that the 2008 election gave a little boost to Obama in a few strategic areas? I
IRC, there were several places where Romney got zero votes; granted, they were in heavily black Democrat cities, but where better to deep-six any votes that went Republican?

Note also the strawman nature of Biden’s argument. I don’t think anyone is saying there should be absolutely no limits on Americans’ rights to own any weapon under the sun. But Biden is speaking as though that’s what gun rights advocates are saying.

The argument, I think, goes like this:

“So, you agree there can, and should, be limits on the types of weapons Americans can hold. It follows that we can limit, to the extent we want, the weapons Americans may hold.”

Sure, that argument is illogical. However, it does roll easily off the lips and makes as much sense as many other justifications that have worked for crazy leftist proposals.

Old line: “Amateurs talk tactics, the “Pros” talk logistics”. Assuming the F-15 air-crews and their support staff follow orders from Washington, every strike brings the cities closer to starvation. Many “Progs” have talked of population reduction. A revolution will accomplish that. Maybe “They” plan on riding it out in their hide, surviving on their stash of cookies, water and batteries. They have to come out eventually and there will be a bunch of nasties waiting for them.

Maybe “They” think it will work. The Soviets and CCP murdered millions and stayed in power.

I suspect that most folks understand that when the gubbmint trucks arrive at a grocery, pharmacy, or farm, the person giving orders and the drIver(s) go first. “Dead man walking” is a difficult opponent.
