Epiphany strikes! (when you least expect it):
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/black-lives-matter-st-paul-founder-says-he-resigned-after-learning-ugly-truth

Hmmm, will he, brave soul, be tarred and feathered by all the usual suspects (IOW former compatriots) and run out of Dodge...? (Or might this be the start of a beautiful relationship? )

And might one wonder if Robin DiAngelo will have her own "Come to Jesus" moment? After all, she's likely made more money than she ever thought possible. And it must be very wearying proclaiming day in, day out just how fragile White Folks are. (And how racist.) Well, stay tuned...

Aggie. I should have specified dem pols. the mechanism(s) you list don't affect them. I know it's dumb to say they have to have perversions, scandals, failures at what most people would think required, in order to qualify for office. But it looks that way, or perhaps only if they're Kennedys.
Might be a coincidence.
Point is, they get elected no matter....

@Richard Aubrey, I'm not sure what your main point is, but....regarding Gerry Studds, so what? Teddy was miles worse across any parameter of character, in my opinion, and he kept getting elected for as long as his liver kept functioning.

But in the modern world: Would you say the #MeToo movement was effective at naming / shaming / celebrities, destroying their legacy and removing their earning potential - or not? Bill Cosby? Kevin Spacey? Harvey Weinstein? Dozens of others, either with no viable career or even being investigated/prosecuted? How about #Believe All Women? Did that cause some grief for Kavanaugh, even as unwarranted and ultimately fraudulent as it proved to be?

Which people should be more vocally honest? The dems? That presumes disgust. Anything empirical on that? Gerry Studds was re-elected half a dozen times.
The rest of the folks paying attention are as vocally honest as they can be if they wish but who cares?

Joe Biden has not changed. He's always been a disingenuous, self-serving creep that's missing some of the self-control filters normal people have.

But the Biden themes are archetypal of a ruling class from any age: Outrageously unacceptable public behavior that escapes sanction or condemnation.

Joe is a mediocrity who managed to connive his way upward in the Democratic Party. He's been safely insulated from normal people for 50 years. His only behavioral contacts are his peers, and many of them are as bad as he is, or worse - but they know they must do these things in private. Joe's missing that filter: Discretion. It's a gap in his pathology. That's why he's always been a loose cannon, and un-trustable.

That's why we have the 'Crazy Uncle Joe' myth, trying to patronize creepy and unacceptable behavior. Looks like it's mostly worked too, but it wouldn't if people were more vocally honest about their disgust.

Richard Aubrey, Geoffrey Britain, Baltimoron, I do agree Joe has pedophile impulses. I was thinking more along the lines of Democrats allowing people with sexual problems in their midst, however your distinctions are well made.

Obloodyhell, First, I misspelled it no matter what, but in my defence, I was thinking about how Israeli's say mish-a-gash, the emphasis on the part of the word -mish, which is pronounced like its own word. However there is no "e" in Hebrew so I think I just through it together in English. You can't go to Israel and say meshugah or meshugannah they'll rip you for it. In the end all three ways are said and used, it just depends where you are.

Also, your hypothesis leaves out the fact that there are a lot of Democrats not named Kennedy who’d like a seat in congress.

And they roll over and play dead around Boston and Providence. Their first loss occurred last year when Robert Kennedy's grandson, who had a safe seat in the House (and has no scandals attached to his name) attempted to knock-off an incumbent Democratic senator. Note, he was elected to Congress in 2012; no one of consequence challenged him for the Democratic nomination. The last time the Kennedys got push-back from local pols was in 1986, when Joseph Kennedy II had to put in some effort to win the Democratic primary to replace Tip O'Neill, who was retiring. He was 34 years old, he'd never held elective office before, he'd paralyzed a woman in a witless vehicle accident 10 years earlier, he had an embarrassing educational history, and he was employed by a family-founded philanthropy which was in essence a PR scam. He still got the endorsement of Tip O'Neill and the Boston Globe.
