Neo, I realize you might not see this comment since it’s a fairly old thread... but I’ll give it a shot. Have you heard of Itoh peonies? They’re the result of a cross between herbaceous peonies and tree peonies, with the best features of both. They’re easier to grow than tree peonies and don’t need staking like regular peonies. The stems are sturdier so there’s no flopping. Other advantages are the extended bloom period (due to side buds) and attractive foliage that looks good all the way up to late fall. Gorgeous flowers too.

huxley,

Had a similar experience moving one of my kids from the Midwest to Florida last year. If we were moving the other direction U Haul would have probably paid me to get some of their inventory out of Florida!

Do you think most of the influx is coming west, from California?

Rufus T. Firefly:

That would be my bet. One data point is a cafe friend who told me her daughter and son-in-law were moving from Los Angeles.

I just checked U-Haul and they would charge $2544 for the rental of their smallest truck from San Franisco to Abq this weekend. (I had heard a rumor that CA U-Haul stores no longer rent for any destination outside CA.)

I'm sure you have all seen the reporter asking Ted Cruz to wear a mask. (Of course, no reporter has asked Jen Psaki to wear a mask...)

I really like Cruz' reply, "You're welcome to step away if you'd like." We should all start using that a lot more when confronted by someone who is demanding we accept their skewed version of reality. It's a polite statement. Not aggressive nor rude, but assertive.

Albuquerque has been discovered by those fleeing big blue cities. There are now bidding wars and fast sales. Homes below $200K may be a thing of the past.

Zillow tells me my house is now worth 10% over what I paid last August. I confess to no wisdom greater than I had to get out of that apartment complex.
