You don’t recall Trump saying people should wear a mask, but actually, Trump has had a complicated message regarding masks, and he’s definitely recommended them quite a few times. In typical fashion, NBC says he’s “muddying” his message, but if Obama had said exactly the same thing they’d have called it “nuanced.” In that article, Trump seems to be saying that masks are good but they won’t stop the epidemic, and that there are liberty issues involved as well in requiring them. He adds that masks can cause harm if not used correctly, something that quite a few people have said as well. For example, masks can give people a false sense of security so that they take more risks. In addition, not only has the Fauci recommendation on masks changed from the early days of the pandemic, but Trump himself advocated them quite a long time ago. I don’t recall Trump saying we should definitively wear a mask. He has mocked people for it. Recently made fun of Biden and even Laura Ingraham for wearing one at a rally. So he is certainly not definitive about wearing one primarily because many of his followers want to flout ‘freedom’ about not covering their face. But you are incorrect about the WHO. What they said – and you can look it up – is that masks alone are not enough. You also need to social distance, clean your hands, keep the masks clean and if possible wear one that has layers. Saying a mask is not enough absolutely does not mean don’t wear a mask.
