As to the issue of Dem stalling tactics wrt Barrett's confirmation:
_____________________________________

Nominees usually meet with as many lawmakers as possible before the confirmation vote. Those so-called courtesy meetings are expected to begin almost immediately after the nominee is named.

White House lawyers and Barrett will also have two logistical gauntlets to clear. The nominee must complete a lengthy questionnaire for the Judiciary Committee disclosing past writings, speeches, professional activities, and relevant legal experience. Justice Brett Kavanaugh's completed questionnaire ran over 100 pages. Lawmakers can also submit supplementary questions, called questions for the record or QFRs, for the nominee. Senate Democrats sent almost 1,300 QFRs to Kavanaugh, and may do the same to delay progress on Barrett's nomination.

A team of lawyers intimately familiar with the nominee will be on hand to complete both the questionnaire and the QFRs. Overwhelming the nominee with written questions may only buy a couple of days in a best-case scenario, but on a tight confirmation timeline even minor holdups could be decisive.

Rachel Bovard, policy director for the Conservative Partnership Institute and a Senate procedure maven, told the Washington Free Beacon that Democrats can blunt progress by forcing procedural votes or leveraging institutional rules. One such move might be to invoke an arcane rule requiring that committee work end no later than two hours after the Senate gavels into session, but Bovard said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could break that move on his own. Democrats might also make motions to adjourn, which must be voted on.

"The GOP can easily overcome them, it just takes 51 votes. But you have to have 51 people there to do it," Bovard said.

All told, a strong-arm approach from Republicans can overcome whatever dilatory tactics Democrats try....

After the election, nationwide riots will give full legitimacy to Trump invoking the Insurrection Act. He can arrest and charge in federal court rioters, funders, mayors and governors and activist judges who throw the charges out of court and then recharge those arrested. If Congress moves to impeach Trump for invoking the Insurrection Act, he can charge members of Congress with supporting Insurrection and obstruction of justice. Plus, there’s always Martial Law.

Which is exactly why I didn't like reading Trump's energy in 2015. Too combative, precisely because he was planning to do a coup de tat or some other thing on this vein of martial law dictatorship.

I am only a telempath on the low P scale, so not a full blown telepathic reader, thus I couldn't see that Trump was readying this Mars for war against the Deep State. It felt more like he saw all Republicans as his enemy.

Phillip Sells:

It has changed considerably, at least from looking at Google Earth etc. Sburban housing developments everywhere. As a military brat my access to Quantico (USMC) and Fort Belvoir (US Army) ended when my dependent military ID card expired. Growing up I spent a lot more time on Ft. Belvoir than Quantico.

I left Woodbridge for good in 1975 (didn't return after geology field camp in UT). My folks left Woodbridge for the San Diego area in 1978. My last visit to Prince William county was for my 1992 HS reunion where I stayed at my oldest brother's house in Manassas. He now lives in western WA. Only one of five siblings remains in northern VA.

om, I know - strange idea. :) Has Prince William County changed much since you left? I imagine it must have somewhat. Manassas is there, at least; and the USMC (you probably get that a lot).

I suddenly realized while in the shower this morning that if Judge Barrett is successful in this, she might have to move to the D. C. area or at least acquire some housing around there. I would regard that as a definite downside to this job - having to leave Indiana in comparison. I feel as if, as long as it isn't Gary or something, Indiana would be far preferable. But of course, I'm biased.

I once had the wild notion of going to IU Bloomington for Linguistics. Their course catalog, at least at the time, had an astounding number of different languages on offer.

I’m not sure exactly how confirmation works. What resources do Republicans have for cutting through Democrats’ stalling tactics (which can include blatant unfair attacks)?

Confirmation hearings on judges were atypical if not unknown prior to 1914. Send the nomination to the floor and let her rip. They held confirmation hearings for her three years ago when she was elevated to the 7th circuit.

Richard Saunders:

But those are words written by systemic racists and we (Progressives) have our lived truths since 1619. They don't intend to let some stinkin Constitution stand in the way of "justice." - I am trying to anticipate what a Montage would say and do.

You are correct and that is probably what she will say, although with grace and deference to the inquisitors. It may be another eye opening moment for the public before the election. Pray for her.
