They way they made her kneel in the sand is infuriating. These cops have no clue the fine line they are walking, and what happens when they cross it in front of hundreds. It’s amazing to me there was no violence.

It’s good thing Americans still trust the police, and see them as basically good, which they are. But this thing they were doing was stupid in the extreme, and damages their good name and the perception of legitimate authority in general. Let’s not do this anymore.

Then, there is this report about Chinese President Xi personally calling WHO Director General Tedros on January 21st, and asking him not to report that the Chinese Cornoavirus is transmissible human to human, and not to declare the spread of the virus a Pandemic.*

I would expect that every one of the major world powers is employing every technical means they have at their disposal to surveil, monitor, and to keep track of what their enemies and potential enemies are doing.

Thus, in addition to any human intelligence—i.e. human sources—witting or unwitting, and agents on the ground, I would also expect them to be using technical means of gathering intelligence–things like the use of satellite imagery—visual, infrared, etc., the monitoring of radio, computer data, Internet, and cell phone traffic, and many other techniques that am pretty sure exist that I know nothing of.

So, for instance, there were reports of results from Wuhan that indicated that all of the crematories there were working non-stop, that there were massive numbers of funeral urns being delivered to that city, there were stories about long lines of family members waiting for hours outside of crematories waiting to pick up the ashes of their loved ones, and that there was evidence of new land being dug up to provide for burial spaces—all indications that the number of deaths from the Chinese Coronavirus in Wuhan were far higher than the Chinese Community Party authorities were admitting.

Now comes the news that cell phone usage data—or rather the absence of cell phone usage in the area—indicates that for quite some time in early and mid October 2019 the Wuhan Institute for Virology, including the roads in the area, was apparently shut down–keep in mind that Wuhan has a larger population than that of New York City, and is a very built up and congested area. *

This, it would seem to me, might indicate that authorities were trying to stop people from the area around the Institute from traveling anywhere else and, thus, trying to contain, to halt the escape and spread of the Chinese Coronavirus from that Institute.

If this supposition is correct, then, the virus did not first erupt in December, it first erupted in mid-October, or even earlier.

Sorry, but safety always doesn’t come first. What is the acceptable level of risk? Zero COVID-19 deaths and for how long? Good luck with that, and enjoy your confinement. Something about risks that are accepted and negotiated among the stakeholders. Is the Health Department elected? Are Executive Orders hashed out by elected representatives?

Sorry to rain on your parade but a few governors didn’t follow the herd. You live, effectively, in a one party state, that will not learn from it’s mistakes. Last to open first to bankruptcy. Enjoy.

‘Willing subservience‘ Or ‘idiotic and senseless’ is to others following the guidelines established by statutes and laws and put into practice by representatives in government. Don’t like the current rules? Fine. Vote them out and replace them with those who share your views. The problem is you’d have to also vote out most Republicans. They too wear masks and in most cases follow the recommended guidelines. As I have noted before, hindsight is 2020. Every governor in the country and most politicians agreed to take this course of action. The reason is because safety always comes first. I would say it’s an easy choice but difficult to implement. This is how we test a society, a government and an economy. Few are happy with it but doing the exact opposite was an option few wanted to try.

[BTW Om I actually was kicked off a beach with two friends of mine in late March the first weekend after the order. Lifeguard was cool about it though.]
