Some have also noticed that he touches his face in this video, which is one of the no-nos during this pandemic. He does even worse during another interview, this one with CNN’s Jake Tapper. When Tapper admonishes the former vice president for coughing into his hand, rather than the crook of his arm, Biden explains that “it’s OK because” he’s “alone in his home.” Except that that’s not true: There is at least one individual manning the camera, another the sound equipment.

Per the NY State Dept. of Health’s last update from today of positive cases, total statewide is 30,811. But only 2719 of those are upstate, so fewer than 1 in 10. (I’m counting Westchester with ‘downstate’ for this purpose.) The city of New York is by far the biggest concentration in NY State.

I mention this because it occurred to me that some perspective on the distribution of cases in NY could be helpful to the discussion. I don’t know how many deaths there have been in upstate, but anyway, when you hear talk of “New York State” as the hardest-hit of the states, that’s true mostly in the sense that greater NYC holds 90% of the cases at this point. I would ask that one bear this in mind.

The NYS DOH website that I’m following doesn’t post death numbers, so if anybody has a source for that type of data, I’d like it if you let me know. I kind of care more about cases in general than the death rate, personally, but I suppose having the mortality figures would help me contribute more to the discussion if need be.

Cuomo said state measures to control the coronavirus appeared to be working as the rate of hospitalizations has slowed in recent days. ‘Now that is almost too good to be true,’ he said. ‘This is a very good sign and a positive sign, again not 100% sure it holds, or it’s accurate but the arrows are headed in the right direction.’
