Yes, I took a look.

I suppose that we – or I – expect that those who’ve had physically easy, and financially comfortable lives, should age well, and with some dignity. And I further suppose that some of us – myself included – unthinkingly assume that Hollywood types are on average well-balanced enough, and disciplined enough, and intelligent enough to manage this. Whereas, most of them are probably seriously morally defective and psychologically disturbed. At least they talk as though they are when you stop long enough to consider it.

You have a picture of Paul Newman up there. And in my estimation he looks much the more respectable man at 50 or 70, than he did very young. I happened to see his Navy photo in the past, and there he looks like a punk you would want to punch out, just on principle.

I’m trying to think of some actresses who’ve retained their looks, but that is a more difficult proposition; because in their case I cannot readily separate the state of their preservation from their former sexual attractiveness.

Some obviously maintain into their 50’s. I was never a fan, but one has to admit that Bo Derek was well preserved at 55. Elizabeth Shue, and I have probably seen only parts of two of her movies ever, seems to be another.

The last television show I watched more than one episode of was “House”. I was struck by the looks of the female doctor who kept trying to help the idiot doctor out; and recalled commenting on her looks here in the past. I figured she must be 50 by now and was going to include her as well. However, in a bit of self-protective mode I figured I’d better look her up now just in case and be sure. I kept searching “Edleman”, and that wasn’t working. So I typed in “House doctor show”. Lisa Edelstein, is her name. So far so good. Wiki has a great picture. But it’s dated 2007. So I googled her now.

Egad. Ruth Bader Ginzberg’s picture came up.

And what they will look like at 70 is anyone’s guess.

You are probably right that fat is the great enemy of both men and women. It debilitates and neuters males, and coarsens women. Of course if your strategy to keep the lbs off is through a diet of whiskey and cigarettes or amphetamines, it probably ain’t gonna work.

Yeah, you’re right. Probably an unfair comment.

If I had to guess, I’d guess that looking a wreck is probably more related to careless living, addictions in their manifold manifestations, and possibly illness, more than initial good looks.

But I know that that last helps especially in old age.

It’s funny how the looks of some people change radically with age, and the looks of others only within limits.
