There are plenty of voters who never knew JFK as president. He was killed, what? 56 years ago? We got Bill Clinton partly because of his good hair, like Kennedy, and the fact that he met Kennedy. That should be the warning, right there. Plus, we’ve learned a lot about the “sainted” Kennedy clan since then, their reckless behavior and sense of entitlement.

According to some web page the proper pronunciation is “boot-edge” but that sure strikes me as post-hoc.

Even Andrew Sullivan admits he sounds it as “booty-gig” in his mind’s ear.

At one point I was told, “it’s ‘boot-edge-edge‘”.

Now I say “booty-gig” just to get a chuckle… or start an argument.

Or Newt Gingrich? Or Rick Santorum? Remember when Ted Cruz, Benjamin Carson, or Carly Fiorina was supposed to eclipse Trump and be the nominee? T

No, I don’t, because that never happened. A succession of people had a brief moment (a few weeks each) leading in the polls in the latter part of 2011, or at least performing well ‘ere they disappeared. That included Herman Cain, Mrs. Bachmann, and Gov. Perry. Santorum and Gingrich performed satisfactorily contra Mitt Romney, but were never close to him in the delegate count. Carson’s campaign was notable for a number of things, but he was not near the leaders once the votes were being counted. There was a small Carly poll boomlet in late 2015; that’s it. Cruz was a real contender for the nomination, but I doubt he was the favorite in anyone’s mind at any point, except perhaps for a brief period between Iowa and New Hampshire.

And after checking wikipedia, there are still 17 (seventeen) people in the race, although we tend to only hear about the top three (Biden, Sanders, Warren).

With the way things are now, the best option for the country might be for a relatively normal Democrat who is outside of Washington, DC, like a governor or a businessman (such as Howard Schultz, of Starbucks) to push very hard for the nomination. That person could make the case for centrist positions, and also be able to repudiate the excesses of previous Democrats (corruption and spying on Trump). An outsider Democrat who is populist and America first could end up winning.
