I had a thought.. maybe the mayor could do what a couple of rock musicians in my old collection used to do, change the spelling of their names in the liner notes with every album.

Stalking horse/ sacrificial lambs to distract from the shortcomings of the pre selected heir apparent, and make them APPEAR to be a “rational compromise” choice.
Uncle Joe has repeatedly demonstrated he’s not in it to win it. I expect his eleventh hour decline to include an “endorsement” for the NEW lying, nagging. loud mother-in-law/ raving crazy sister, that is normally kept in the Massachusetts attic with antique toys.
So who does that leave?

Bill Wilhelm doesn’t sound like the greatest name for an aspiring politician, as its first association is Kaiser Wilhelm, who’s remembered with nostalgia by very few. There was a knuckleball pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles named Hoyt Wilhelm, who wasn’t that great but had a fairly long career, so maybe the name is remembered with affection in that town. Or not.

Affixing a phony “de” to your name was a well known ploy for poseurs and conmen back in the 19th century, yes, pretending to have an aristocratic background of some sort. Lots of people changed their names when moving from state to state, seeking to evade debt-collectors or the police. It was hard to nail down genealogies in those days. Sometimes it still is,

For those unaware, the prefix “de” denotes a family once regarded as of ‘noble’ birth. In this case, it translates as of the ‘House’ of Blasio.

In Europe’s noble houses, inheritance of the surname is through the father.

“Bill de Blasio was born on May 8, 1961 in Manhattan’s Doctors Hospital in New York City. He is the third son of Maria Angela (née de Blasio; 1917–2007) and Warren Wilhelm (1917–1979).”

Which means that Bill de Blasio’s actual name is William Wilhelm. And that, he has no legal or genealogical claim whatsoever to the de Blasio surname.

I’ve little doubt that he changed his name (if he bothered with that legality) to “de Blasio” because he considered it’s Latino etymology to be politically desirable. So too with “Bill” instead of William.

Like Elizabeth Warren, he’s a poseur and a liar.
