Until you figure out that the UN holds hostages and has to be relieved of them before it's sent packing, US out of the UN talk will always just remain talk.

Map the UN system, figure out alternate ways to sort out international postage rules, international weather reporting cooperation, international internet lines, phone lines, etc. and it'll be the end of the UN silliness. So long as sending a package to Canada or Romania runs through a UN rules making body, we're going to be stuck with the system.

The UN has long since worn out its welcome.

As I understand it, we pay the largest percentage of the bill for this bloated, overpaid, bureaucratic monstrosity, this corruption, bloviation, and paperwork factory and, in return, it vilifies, interferes with, and condemns us.

Time for it to be gone, to set up shop in some other place, like India's Calcutta, or somewhere in Somalia, or perhaps Antarctica.

The only reason I can see for the U.S. to continue membership in the UN is to keep an eye on it, and to thwart its inimical moves against us, and the peace and good order of the world.*

*During the run-up to the Korean War the old U.S.S.R. was boycotting the UN and, so, its permanent representative was refusing to show up for Security Council meetings.

It was only the fact that the U.S.S.R.'s representative to the Security Council was absent and, thus, not present to cast his veto, that enabled the Security Council to vote to authorize the Use of Force by the U.S.--acting for the UN-- against North Korean military forces.

So, unfortunately, the lesson is not to disengage, for fear of what the UN will do if you are not present to protect your interests.
