Many people who are mostly on the anti-Left and outright Right side of things say calumny, slander, lies, and cover-ups have been part of American news-publishing since the beginning.

But it is both disillusioning and disheartening to find that it used to be so and today’s not all that different. One had thought better of one’s fellow man, or at least of those whom we trusted, and trust, to tell the news as honestly as possible.

This is not meant as a slam against Mrs. Hoyt or the information she is providing. She’s a very smart lady whom I respect, and who knows what’s she’s talking about. But again, she’s a science fiction author, not a reporter.
